Kelly Barr-Anderson Is Proving It’s Never Too Late to Change Your Life
For Kelly Barr-Anderson, motorsports didn’t start in childhood.
It started at age 51.
In this inspiring episode of the Women’s Motorsports Network Podcast, Kelly shares how one trip to the dragstrip completely transformed her life and eventually led to a mission of helping foster children and underserved youth discover hope and purpose.
Kelly began racing after taking her daily driver Camaro to the track “just to try it.” What she found wasn’t just racing — it was community, belonging, excitement, and joy.
That first pass down the dragstrip changed everything.
Since then, Kelly has raced multiple Camaros, competed in no-prep events, traveled to major races, and built deep connections within the racing world.
But one of the most impactful parts of her story came off the racetrack.
After personal experiences with foster care within her own family, Kelly partnered with others to launch Mavix Community Outreach, a nonprofit focused on helping foster children and underprivileged youth through mentorship, outreach events, and motorsports exposure.
The organization hosts movie nights, car shows, school visits, and youth-centered events while partnering with other nonprofits and community organizations to support children who often feel overlooked.
One of Kelly’s favorite parts of the outreach is bringing race cars directly to kids.
Students get to see the vehicles up close, sit inside them, ask questions, and learn that motorsports offers countless career paths beyond driving — including welding, fabrication, photography, social media, engineering, logistics, and more.
Kelly believes exposure changes lives.
For many kids, simply seeing a different possibility for their future can spark confidence and hope.
The episode also touches on recovery, reinvention, family, faith, and how joy can be found at any stage of life.
Kelly’s story is proof that sometimes the biggest transformation begins the moment you decide to try something new.
