Air horns, a packed arena, and a mom who never thought she’d wear a swimsuit on stage, then did it anyway. We’re joined by Caitlyn Vogel, a racer from Pennsylvania and a powerhouse in the women in motorsports community, to unpack what the Motorama pageant is actually like and why she keeps coming back for the friendships, the growth, and the chance to set an example for young drivers watching from the stands.

Caitlyn shares how losing more than 100 pounds changed her health and her mindset, and how she used motorsports pageants to prove a bigger point at home: confidence is built by doing the scary thing. We talk through the judging rounds (including the closed interview, sportswear, and swimwear), the very real criticism pageants can attract, and what it means to represent racing with purpose instead of chasing attention.

We also go deeper into what matters most to Caitlyn’s family: giving back. From Motorama fundraising for an autism school playground to launching her Fearless and Fuel brand with a goal to sponsor youth racers, her focus stays on opportunity, sportsmanship, and life lessons beyond winning. And you’ll hear about Lizzie's Snuggles for Clefts, the family’s effort to support cleft lip and palate families with care packages and ongoing advocacy, all rooted in the same racing community that showed up for them first.

Subscribe, share this with a racing friend, and leave a review so more people can find these stories of women in motorsports, youth racing, and real-world impact.

00:00:47.359 --> 00:00:55.039
This is the Women's Motorsports Network Podcast, connecting and celebrating women in motorsports one story at a time.

00:00:55.280 --> 00:00:56.640
Let's hit the track.

00:01:09.120 --> 00:01:13.120
And I have one of my newer friends on the show tonight.

00:01:13.840 --> 00:01:16.400
Caitlin Vogel is here with me.

00:01:16.640 --> 00:01:20.239
And I interviewed her daughter a while back.

00:01:20.560 --> 00:01:23.200
It hasn't been all that long ago, Lizzie.

00:01:23.599 --> 00:01:26.000
And just got to be friends with the family.

00:01:26.079 --> 00:01:32.560
And we've never met in person, but that doesn't mean we can't be friends through StreamYard and through Facebook and all that.

00:01:32.719 --> 00:01:39.920
So Caitlin just attended the Motorama show and she participated in the pageant.

00:01:40.000 --> 00:01:47.359
And so I wanted to have her on and share about her experience and and what else she's got going on.

00:01:47.519 --> 00:01:55.280
And if you listen to a podcast that I recently did, Mallory Cutz was also at the Motorama.

00:01:55.359 --> 00:02:01.439
And so this is kind of a you know, we're gonna keep moving on about that event.

00:02:01.519 --> 00:02:05.439
And I had never heard of it till Mallory told me about it.

00:02:05.599 --> 00:02:08.800
And so I want to get the word out more about what that is.

00:02:08.960 --> 00:02:22.719
So Caitlin, I want to welcome you to the show, and I want you to, if you want to, share a little bit about yourself and then tell me, you know, kind of uh how you got interested in Motorama.

00:02:23.919 --> 00:02:32.719
So I'm from Myersdale, Pennsylvania, and I'm a mom of two girls that are actually fourth generation drivers and myself.

00:02:32.800 --> 00:02:33.840
I actually drive two.

00:02:34.159 --> 00:02:36.319
So we're a family of all racers.

00:02:36.479 --> 00:02:38.879
Weekends are busy along with my husband.

00:02:39.120 --> 00:03:05.680
But so I've actually lost over 100 pounds, and I never thought I'd ever see myself on stage, but it was kind of I started about four years ago doing motorsports pageants just to kind of prove to my daughter who was born with a cleft lip and palate that you know anything's possible and it's really helped my confidence, but not only, you know, I've geared my passion of helping other youth in the sport.

00:03:05.840 --> 00:03:16.479
And so I have a lot of girls at the local quartermidget track that really look up to me, and so it's kind of a way of showing them too you can do anything you put your heart to.

00:03:17.039 --> 00:03:18.639
Isn't that the truth?

00:03:18.879 --> 00:03:25.759
Yeah, and they need they need to see it, they don't they can't just be told, they need to see an example.

00:03:26.319 --> 00:03:28.400
Yeah, absolutely for sure.

00:03:28.719 --> 00:03:32.319
So, how did you motivate yourself to lose a hundred pounds?

00:03:33.039 --> 00:03:44.159
For my kids, really, pregnancy was not nice to me like some, so that's kind of where it hit, but I had some health problems come up too, and I was just so motivated.

00:03:44.319 --> 00:03:46.879
So I've been four years, I've kept it off now.

00:03:47.039 --> 00:03:49.280
So really proud of myself.

00:03:50.639 --> 00:03:54.639
Yeah, that's that's a huge accomplishment for sure.

00:03:55.039 --> 00:03:57.280
So tell me about your pageants.

00:03:57.439 --> 00:04:00.479
How did you get interested and started in pageants?

00:04:00.879 --> 00:04:05.759
And they have have they all been motorsports related or all different kinds of pageants?

00:04:06.159 --> 00:04:08.639
I've only ever done motorsports related.

00:04:08.800 --> 00:04:12.719
I was actually trying to think of the year so I get this right.

00:04:13.599 --> 00:04:18.079
2023, I was Miss Speed Sports Showcase.

00:04:18.160 --> 00:04:22.240
That's up near like Poconos area.

00:04:22.480 --> 00:04:32.959
Unfortunately, the show there is no longer a show just because the price of everything, and they've tried some different things, but they couldn't make enough profit to keep it going on.

00:04:33.439 --> 00:04:44.639
I just really enjoyed the environment and traveling to different tracks and you know, handing out little crowns to little girls and meeting all the fans and the kids.

00:04:44.800 --> 00:04:49.199
That was really a lot and amazing opportunity.

00:04:49.759 --> 00:04:53.199
And then I took some time off and I missed it.

00:04:53.600 --> 00:04:54.959
I missed it so much.

00:04:55.199 --> 00:04:58.560
And it's just kind of like the sisterhood, too.

00:04:58.639 --> 00:05:03.839
You meet so many amazing women that are all part of motorsports in different ways.

00:05:04.240 --> 00:05:11.519
So I started doing racing extravaganza, which is in York, Pennsylvania, metal off cool people there.

00:05:11.920 --> 00:05:20.160
I took a year off just to kind of work, you know, work on myself a little, a little bit and work on my family.

00:05:20.319 --> 00:05:25.360
They both the girls started racing and so things changed a little bit.

00:05:25.600 --> 00:05:32.079
But this year I got back in the saddle and I did RX again and I didn't place anything.

00:05:32.160 --> 00:05:37.279
But like I said, it's just it's the friendships made that make it so important to me.

00:05:37.759 --> 00:05:45.759
And if I can make one girl, you know, be like, I want to do that, I want to be like her, then that's success in my plate.

00:05:46.160 --> 00:05:49.600
But then a couple of the girls talked me into Motorama.

00:05:50.000 --> 00:06:02.560
I've been there, it's huge, it's the suspense is crazy, the crowd is insane, and I never thought I'd be in front of that big of a crowd with a swimsuit on to save my life.

00:06:02.800 --> 00:06:03.279
Yeah.

00:06:03.519 --> 00:06:07.600
But I overcame fears and it was an amazing experience.

00:06:08.399 --> 00:06:14.639
So Caitlin, I know there's there's there's kind of two schools of thought.

00:06:14.879 --> 00:06:22.000
Some people think that pageants are outdated and and it exploits women and you know all that stuff.

00:06:22.240 --> 00:06:34.079
Another other school of thought is that it builds confidence, it builds a group of camaraderie with other women who enjoy that, you know.

00:06:34.399 --> 00:06:52.959
And so I like that you're willing to put on a swimsuit and whatever else you have to do to show little girls that even if it's not a pageant, if there's something they want to do that they're timid about, that they just need to go for it.

00:06:53.120 --> 00:06:54.800
And that's what you kind of did here.

00:06:54.959 --> 00:07:04.000
So tell me a little bit more in detail about Motorama and the pageant, and what do you what are all the things that you have to do and you're judged on?

00:07:04.959 --> 00:07:07.519
So Motorama is pretty big.

00:07:07.759 --> 00:07:16.000
So one of them is a closed interview, which we're all asked the same question, and I was up first, so that was kind of nerve-wracking.

00:07:16.079 --> 00:07:18.240
I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna lie.

00:07:18.879 --> 00:07:26.560
But interview, and then you have your sportswear, and then you also have your swimwear round as well.

00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:29.839
And swimwear around is like insane.

00:07:30.160 --> 00:07:32.160
I have never seen such a big crowd.

00:07:32.240 --> 00:07:35.279
There's air horns and there's fan vote.

00:07:36.560 --> 00:07:44.240
Just even stepping on that stage, your adrenaline is like through the roof and crazy, and you're like, I just did that dang thing.

00:07:44.399 --> 00:07:52.240
I'm like, never thought I would do that in a million, you know, when I did speed sport, I never they don't have that.

00:07:52.399 --> 00:08:01.279
But also RX, I did competed for three, I think three years, and I never had the guts to wear a swimsuit ever.

00:08:01.600 --> 00:08:07.199
But each year I gained more and more confidence and I was like, you know what, this is my year.

00:08:07.439 --> 00:08:10.160
And you know, there's gonna be people that don't like it.

00:08:10.319 --> 00:08:16.240
There is, it's just the way the world is, but you know, you can be you and be confident.

00:08:16.399 --> 00:08:24.399
So, but like you said, about there's no there are some people that do it for the wrong, you know, reasonings.

00:08:24.480 --> 00:08:35.360
And when I won Mississippi Sports Showcase, it was kind of some queen, pageant queens have given a bad rep for others.

00:08:36.320 --> 00:08:44.320
And so, you know, I was married, I have kids, you know, I'm not looking for those types of things.

00:08:44.480 --> 00:08:52.559
It wasn't for attention, it was it's all within good reasonings and just sharing my passion of motorsports with others.

00:08:52.799 --> 00:09:05.840
But there's definitely two sides to everything, and so I think that's my main thing is kind of changing the aspect of what pageant queens will say, you know, the bad rep of people.

00:09:06.320 --> 00:09:06.960
Yeah.

00:09:07.279 --> 00:09:12.559
And it looked like from what I saw, there was quite a number of ladies that were in the pageant.

00:09:12.799 --> 00:09:17.759
Yeah, so there was supposed to be 40 of us, I believe there were around 30.

00:09:18.080 --> 00:09:30.320
Yeah, that's a lot, and all yeah, it says men, it's all ages and all shapes, you know, and sizes, and I think that makes it even more because it's it's not all about what's on the outside.

00:09:30.639 --> 00:09:35.679
Oh no, and it shouldn't even be really much of anything about what's on the outside.

00:09:35.919 --> 00:09:53.679
I think the the speaking part is probably a bigger to me, it would be a bigger part because you're representing, you know, a group, absolutely, and yeah, and so I think and and the fact that you can look put together no matter what size you are.

00:09:53.840 --> 00:09:55.120
Yep, absolutely.

00:09:55.360 --> 00:09:59.200
And it's all into how you carry yourself, yes, for sure.

00:09:59.360 --> 00:10:06.639
So you you do the interview, the sportswear, and the swimsuit, and then do you have to do any kind of talent?

00:10:06.799 --> 00:10:08.960
Do you have to do any public speaking at all?

00:10:09.759 --> 00:10:20.159
Um, at so at Motorama, there is no public speaking unless you get to the top five, and then you have to explain why you'd like to be Miss Motorama.

00:10:20.720 --> 00:10:30.960
If you're doing more like RX racing extravaganza, you are pulling a question out of a hat and have no clue what you're gonna get.

00:10:31.279 --> 00:10:35.840
And of course, you I always pick the one that I don't want.

00:10:35.919 --> 00:10:39.120
That's how it all the hardest one.

00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:47.679
So, and then they also have on Friday night, you get to explain on stage why you'd like to be miss racing extravaganza.

00:10:48.399 --> 00:10:49.840
Okay, all right.

00:10:50.399 --> 00:10:58.000
And and so are there, do you know, are there a lot of pageants like this still going on like all over the country?

00:10:58.320 --> 00:11:01.120
Do you know whether that's going on or or not?

00:11:01.279 --> 00:11:03.039
Because I don't really hear about it very well.

00:11:03.440 --> 00:11:07.600
So I know there's quite a few racetracks, and I know it's coming back.

00:11:07.759 --> 00:11:14.080
There's quite a few racetracks that have their own, like Miss Lincoln Speedway has their own.

00:11:14.320 --> 00:11:18.080
There's Miss oh my gosh, Miss Mahoney Valley.

00:11:18.159 --> 00:11:18.720
They're trying.

00:11:18.960 --> 00:11:21.519
This will be, I think, their second year coming back with it.

00:11:21.759 --> 00:11:25.039
One of the girls I actually competed with was last year's.

00:11:25.360 --> 00:11:29.120
There's a Miss Evergreen, so there are quite a few.

00:11:29.279 --> 00:11:32.559
I think you just don't hear so much about it.

00:11:32.879 --> 00:11:45.360
No, so like Knoxville in Iowa, yeah, they have a pageant, you know, and that was really the one of the few that I had ever heard of, but that's a big deal there for sure.

00:11:45.600 --> 00:11:46.480
Yeah, absolutely.

00:11:46.639 --> 00:11:47.759
I've seen that.

00:11:48.080 --> 00:11:49.759
Yeah, that's really cool.

00:11:50.080 --> 00:11:53.360
So, you know, I know you met a lot of nice ladies in that.

00:11:53.440 --> 00:11:57.519
What keeps what what's gonna keep you going back and doing this again?

00:11:58.159 --> 00:12:00.879
Well, I did receive two awards this year.

00:12:01.039 --> 00:12:15.360
I was a celebrity choice recipient, and I also got the philanthropy award, which we actually walked around with buckets and sold tickets to win a Home Depot card and some Hershey Park tickets.

00:12:15.519 --> 00:12:23.279
And all the money was going this year for an autistic school in Harrisburg area.

00:12:23.519 --> 00:12:27.679
They are looking to build a playground that costs over$100,000.

00:12:28.720 --> 00:12:34.399
So I think the weekend we were able to raise over$7,000 towards the cost.

00:12:35.120 --> 00:12:36.159
That's awesome.

00:12:36.320 --> 00:12:42.240
So I have a heart for that because my youngest grandson is autistic.

00:12:42.320 --> 00:12:46.320
He's five now, but he's very high functioning, he's very smart.

00:12:47.039 --> 00:12:55.919
And because of him being born to my daughter and son-in-law, they actually opened an autism school for kids.

00:12:57.679 --> 00:13:08.000
I can't remember what the smallest age is, but it goes up to six years of old six years old, and they just opened their fifth one in the Phoenix area.

00:13:08.159 --> 00:13:16.000
That's how they have yeah, Phoenix, they have one in Phoenix, Mesa, I can't even remember Tucson, I think.

00:13:16.159 --> 00:13:25.840
So they just opened their fifth one, and we, you know, back when my kids were that age, you didn't really hear about autism.

00:13:26.399 --> 00:13:27.440
No, not at all.

00:13:28.639 --> 00:13:42.000
No, and so now you hear more about it, and thank goodness there are people like my daughter and son-in-law, yeah, who are willing to have these schools, and it's it's really amazing the success they have.

00:13:42.480 --> 00:13:53.519
My grandson goes to regular, regular preschool, kindergarten, you know, because of being able to go to that school and learn how to interact and all those things.

00:13:53.600 --> 00:13:58.720
And so, yeah, I that's great that you uh you guys did that.

00:13:58.879 --> 00:14:00.480
Yeah, yeah, so it was amazing.

00:14:00.639 --> 00:14:01.759
I was like, let's go.

00:14:01.919 --> 00:14:09.600
That you know, helping others is really something that's always on my heart, and I was always brought up to do that.

00:14:09.840 --> 00:14:14.399
So that brought a lot of joy to my heart this that weekend.

00:14:14.639 --> 00:14:15.519
I'm sure.

00:14:15.679 --> 00:14:17.679
Now, will you do it again?

00:14:18.320 --> 00:14:23.200
Absolutely, I I really would, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure.

00:14:23.519 --> 00:14:35.919
I mean, not getting in the top five, but getting two awards out of that many women to me was such a win, and I was so excited because I really jumped out of my comfort zone that weekend.

00:14:36.159 --> 00:14:40.879
So, but my daughter was racing, so I got to still be involved in that.

00:14:41.039 --> 00:14:45.519
And so it was just we both got to come home with awards for Motorama.

00:14:45.759 --> 00:14:48.080
So that was a true win in my book.

00:14:48.320 --> 00:14:48.720
Yes.

00:14:48.879 --> 00:14:51.679
And what do they think about you being in a pageant?

00:14:52.320 --> 00:14:58.720
So my youngest was actually front and center, and I have a picture of her from the photographer.

00:14:58.879 --> 00:15:04.559
You could see me facing the crowd, and she is just grinning ear to ear, and so proud.

00:15:04.720 --> 00:15:08.639
And so that makes me, you know, I don't even know.

00:15:08.799 --> 00:15:14.159
I about half cried when I got on stage because my oldest was right at the end of the stage.

00:15:14.240 --> 00:15:18.159
So as soon as I went on, she's there waving and cheering me on.

00:15:18.320 --> 00:15:20.480
So they're behind me 100%.

00:15:21.440 --> 00:15:22.720
That's that's awesome.

00:15:22.879 --> 00:15:27.919
And you've got you've got great kids, so it's I'm not surprised that they that they do that.

00:15:28.240 --> 00:15:30.799
So what what else are you?

00:15:31.039 --> 00:15:32.480
I know your girls race.

00:15:32.639 --> 00:15:40.080
Do you have anything else that you want to do to be involved like in the motorsports and with kids at all?

00:15:40.240 --> 00:15:44.080
I know you know we've talked a little bit about some things that I was doing.

00:15:44.320 --> 00:15:46.799
So, Caitlin, what's your future look like?

00:15:46.879 --> 00:15:49.919
What are some things you want to do going down the road?

00:15:50.240 --> 00:15:55.679
Yeah, so I have come up with this idea and it's happening in the next couple of months.

00:15:55.759 --> 00:15:57.200
So be looking out.

00:15:57.360 --> 00:16:05.440
But I'm starting up, it's called Fearless and Fuel, and I'm gonna have two brands under it, one for youth and one for women.

00:16:05.759 --> 00:16:12.480
But there's really a need for helping the younger generation of drivers coming up through.

00:16:12.639 --> 00:16:19.120
And unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of sponsorship opportunities unless you have this big rap behind you.

00:16:19.360 --> 00:16:22.720
So I want to sponsor one girl and one boy a season.

00:16:22.799 --> 00:16:25.279
So much of the proceeds will go towards them.

00:16:25.440 --> 00:16:28.639
You know, it'll help my family, and I'll be able to help two other youth.

00:16:28.799 --> 00:16:34.639
So that's been a huge passion and wondering how I can help other drivers get involved.

00:16:34.879 --> 00:16:36.240
That's a great idea.

00:16:36.480 --> 00:16:40.240
Great idea for sure, because who doesn't want another t-shirt?

00:16:40.399 --> 00:16:43.120
Honestly, I don't have enough racing t-shirts.

00:16:43.279 --> 00:16:49.919
I mean, I I'd buy one in a heartbeat, you know, if it's racing and it's, you know, got a cool slogan on it.

00:16:50.159 --> 00:16:55.919
And and so, what a great idea for you to be able to reach out and and help like other kids.

00:16:56.080 --> 00:16:59.120
So, will they have to do some kind of essay or something?

00:16:59.279 --> 00:17:00.000
How will you choose?

00:17:00.399 --> 00:17:02.000
Yeah, that's probably what I'm gonna do.

00:17:02.080 --> 00:17:12.799
And I'm gonna have some other people that are very involved in racing help with my, it's not just gonna be my decision because I do know a lot of kids, and that wouldn't be fair.

00:17:12.960 --> 00:17:23.519
But yes, I'm gonna have some other people read over their essays and about what they're doing because to me, it's not just showing, winning on the track.

00:17:23.680 --> 00:17:35.359
There's so much more to it than you know, it's showing up and working on your equipment and being more involved with other things other than just winning races, right?

00:17:35.599 --> 00:17:46.720
And and it's also, you know, kids they need to learn a lot of things that I call life lessons that don't really have anything to do with how you drive your car.

00:17:46.960 --> 00:17:53.680
And so a lot of parents are good at that, good at teaching those life lessons, and then we have some that aren't.

00:17:54.000 --> 00:18:11.119
And so the fact that maybe through this program that you're gonna do, that you know, you can be able to share that you know, good sportsmanship and how to speak in public, and there's a lot of things that could come out of what you're going to do besides selling t-shirts, right?

00:18:11.519 --> 00:18:12.000
Absolutely.

00:18:12.160 --> 00:18:18.799
I I want it to be kind of more like a partnership and working with them on all aspects of it.

00:18:19.119 --> 00:18:20.559
Yeah, for sure.

00:18:21.039 --> 00:18:24.319
So Caitlin, and then what's your little one's name?

00:18:24.960 --> 00:18:26.799
Gracelyn and Lizzie.

00:18:27.039 --> 00:18:27.519
Oh, yeah.

00:18:27.920 --> 00:18:28.960
Caitlin, you're Caitlin.

00:18:29.119 --> 00:18:29.359
Duh.

00:18:29.440 --> 00:18:31.200
I'm so it's the end of the day, people.

00:18:31.279 --> 00:18:31.839
I'm sorry.

00:18:32.079 --> 00:18:35.599
So Caitlin, we have Lizzie and Gracelyn.

00:18:35.839 --> 00:18:40.640
Now let's talk about them just for a minute because we don't want to hurt their feelings that we didn't talk about.

00:18:41.039 --> 00:18:41.839
Absolutely.

00:18:42.079 --> 00:18:42.559
Yeah.

00:18:42.799 --> 00:18:44.960
So tell me what do they race?

00:18:45.119 --> 00:18:46.319
Where do you race?

00:18:46.640 --> 00:18:49.920
Tell me about them a little bit so we can get them on the show too.

00:18:50.160 --> 00:18:50.640
Absolutely.

00:18:50.799 --> 00:18:58.640
So they race NASCAR Use series, and their home track is Hagerstown Quarter Image Association in Hagerstown, Maryland.

00:18:58.880 --> 00:19:00.640
Okay, and how old are they?

00:19:00.880 --> 00:19:02.480
They are six and nine.

00:19:02.720 --> 00:19:04.079
Yeah, six and nine.

00:19:04.240 --> 00:19:10.079
So you think, oh my gosh, they're that young, and they're how many years have they been racing?

00:19:10.240 --> 00:19:11.119
A little bit.

00:19:11.440 --> 00:19:14.960
Yeah, so Lizzie's been racing since she was five years old.

00:19:15.119 --> 00:19:27.119
She started out in a go-kart, and Graceland's been racing since she's about three years old in the juice box division, which is really it's really grown.

00:19:27.200 --> 00:19:28.319
It's crazy, you know.

00:19:28.400 --> 00:19:32.240
They run them at Daytona Cart Week, and so it's pretty cool.

00:19:32.319 --> 00:19:36.640
So they've been behind the wheel of something since they were under just five years old.

00:19:36.960 --> 00:19:37.599
Wow.

00:19:37.920 --> 00:19:39.200
And they love it.

00:19:39.519 --> 00:19:40.480
Absolutely.

00:19:40.720 --> 00:19:45.680
Yeah, so they're super, they've been around racing since they were even in my belly.

00:19:45.920 --> 00:19:54.559
But what's pretty awesome is how they're fourth generation drivers, but they're their first females in the family to get behind the wheel.

00:19:54.799 --> 00:19:55.440
Yeah.

00:19:56.000 --> 00:20:05.279
And you know, it's one thing to have two or maybe even three generation, but four generation drivers are few and far between anymore nowadays.

00:20:05.599 --> 00:20:06.720
Absolutely.

00:20:07.039 --> 00:20:07.680
Yeah.

00:20:08.079 --> 00:20:13.359
So what does it take to be a mom of kids that race?

00:20:13.599 --> 00:20:17.440
Because, you know, there's a lot to it, and there's a lot to keep track of.

00:20:17.519 --> 00:20:24.319
So, what is what is your responsibilities as a mom to make sure that things go well for your daughters?

00:20:24.640 --> 00:20:29.039
Well, in our life, it's even crazy because they're actually both medical kids.

00:20:29.279 --> 00:20:36.400
So, you know, I have an Graceland's and autoimmune disorder kid, and then Lizzie was born with a clef-lipping palate.

00:20:36.480 --> 00:20:44.319
So not only are we overcoming that, but they're getting behind the wheel, and it takes so much grit and passion.

00:20:44.480 --> 00:20:50.640
And I keep saying all the time, you know, Lizzie will get upset sometimes because she's slower.

00:20:50.720 --> 00:20:57.599
Or, like, you know, I'm like, but listen, you're a girl in motorsports, and those boys out there have no fear.

00:20:57.759 --> 00:21:04.799
And I keep trying to tell her that, you know, girls are built differently, but it doesn't make them any less of a driver.

00:21:04.960 --> 00:21:09.279
So, but it's long weekends, long, long weekends.

00:21:09.440 --> 00:21:16.640
It's my husband's working on his race car in the shop, so I'm helping work on their quarter midgets to make sure they're ready for the weekend.

00:21:16.960 --> 00:21:26.640
So a lot of maintenance, making sure snacks and drinks, and because they start at like nine in the morning sign-ins and we're there all day.

00:21:26.880 --> 00:21:33.359
So I'm just the cheerleader and the coach at the quarter midget track, and they're everywhere.

00:21:33.440 --> 00:21:35.759
So the kid, you know, they're like little pit lizards.

00:21:36.000 --> 00:21:38.240
If you know what trailers they're at, though.

00:21:38.480 --> 00:21:42.400
Yeah, yeah, because they have their special group of friends there, don't they?

00:21:42.640 --> 00:21:44.000
Yes, absolutely.

00:21:44.240 --> 00:21:45.759
And it's pretty cool though.

00:21:45.839 --> 00:21:50.160
There's so many girls down at the track, and you're seeing it grow every year.

00:21:50.319 --> 00:21:52.319
So it's really neat.

00:21:52.799 --> 00:21:55.359
Yeah, it ha it it does grow every year.

00:21:55.440 --> 00:21:59.759
It just amazes me when I think back to 2017 when I started.

00:22:00.319 --> 00:22:16.240
This there were a good number of women and girls, and the first time I went to, I'm I'm not a huge drag race fan, I'm more so now than I ever was, but I really never grew up around drag racing.

00:22:16.319 --> 00:22:30.480
So the first time I went to US 131 Motorsports Park, which is not that far from me, and all of the little girls that race junior dragsters, I could not believe it.

00:22:30.799 --> 00:22:37.039
And so I was thinking, wow, I knew there were a lot of women involved, but not this many.

00:22:37.200 --> 00:22:40.319
And it just keeps growing and growing.

00:22:40.640 --> 00:22:41.839
Yeah, absolutely.

00:22:42.000 --> 00:22:48.319
It's really amazing to see it because you know, I've been around motorsports my entire life.

00:22:48.480 --> 00:22:50.480
Did I ever think I'd be behind the wheel?

00:22:50.559 --> 00:22:51.680
No, not really.

00:22:52.240 --> 00:22:54.000
But so it's pretty cool.

00:22:54.160 --> 00:23:04.160
I started racing go-karts, and that's actually how Lizzie learned how to wheel her go-kart is a local track would let us come up and she'd just laugh, she'd make laughs, she'd follow me.

00:23:04.240 --> 00:23:09.759
And, you know, so I think it's just amazing to see how far it's grown.

00:23:10.079 --> 00:23:11.440
Yeah, I do too.

00:23:12.160 --> 00:23:15.440
It's a good sport for little girls and women, isn't it?

00:23:15.680 --> 00:23:16.720
It teaches them a lot.

00:23:16.799 --> 00:23:19.200
You know, it takes a lot of grit and passion.

00:23:19.440 --> 00:23:25.279
And my girls are, you know, stuff wasn't just given to them, you know.

00:23:25.440 --> 00:23:32.960
Lizzie, she wanted to start her own baked goods and jewelry, and so she helped raise funds when she wanted to move up the go-karts.

00:23:33.200 --> 00:23:43.359
And I think it teaches them to one be responsible, but grateful for what they have because you know, not all kids have the opportunity.

00:23:43.519 --> 00:23:48.480
So I think it's really cool that I'm able to do it for my girls.

00:23:48.720 --> 00:23:50.000
Yeah, yeah.

00:23:50.160 --> 00:23:56.400
And and I know that they're grateful because they, like you said, they have helped to to make their own way.

00:23:56.559 --> 00:24:03.920
And you know, I I love when I see and talk to little girls and you know, older girls too.

00:24:04.160 --> 00:24:07.039
When I ask them, Do you work, do you work on the car?

00:24:07.200 --> 00:24:11.200
And sometimes the answer is, well, my dad won't really let me.

00:24:13.039 --> 00:24:14.480
Well, my girls are mad.

00:24:14.640 --> 00:24:18.799
Lizzie gets mad if you know there's nothing for her to do on her car.

00:24:18.880 --> 00:24:25.759
So yeah, and and then there's and then there's dads who are like, oh no, you're gonna learn how to do all of this.

00:24:25.920 --> 00:24:32.079
If you're gonna drive, you have to learn how to take care of your car, and that is such a benefit to those kids.

00:24:32.319 --> 00:24:48.400
Yeah, I think it really helps them understand all aspects because yeah, your kid can show up and drive, but they're not learning what it truly takes to be that, you know, respectable driver and know every in and out of their car.

00:24:48.480 --> 00:24:51.119
It makes you a better driver, right?

00:24:51.680 --> 00:25:05.119
And the cost too, you know, if if they're selling baked goods or t-shirts or whatever they might do, mow lawns or whatever to earn money, and then they you know, they think, oh, I earn$50.

00:25:05.519 --> 00:25:18.079
Whoo, that's a lot of money, until they go to buy tires, yep, or something, and then it they realize at an earlier age how far that doesn't go and how they work for it.

00:25:18.480 --> 00:25:23.839
My girls have their own account for their racing, so all their sponsorship and everything goes in there.

00:25:24.000 --> 00:25:44.319
Lizzie goes to the bank and deposits it and knows every aspect of you know what's going on in her racing, which I think you know, she's only nine, so she probably doesn't truly understand everything right now, but down the road, I think she'll really, you know, she's gonna blossom and it's gonna be really cool to watch.

00:25:44.559 --> 00:25:46.400
Yeah, it absolutely is.

00:25:46.880 --> 00:25:50.720
Well, Caitlin, what have we not talked about that you want to share?

00:25:50.880 --> 00:25:55.119
Either about your journey, the pageants, your girls.

00:25:55.680 --> 00:26:01.359
I feel like I haven't asked you enough questions because I kind of know I kind of know you and your story.

00:26:01.440 --> 00:26:03.680
So what have I not asked you about?

00:26:03.920 --> 00:26:12.319
Um, well, a couple other things I'm involved in is I'm on the Mid-Atlantic Junior Race Club, and so that's pretty cool.

00:26:12.480 --> 00:26:20.079
We have a lot of field trips coming up and planned to different drivers' shops, and so it's really neat.

00:26:20.240 --> 00:26:24.640
We're going to Kyle Lear here, I think in two weeks already.

00:26:24.799 --> 00:26:32.079
The weather canceled it a couple times, but that's cool because it's another way I'm involved with the youth.

00:26:32.319 --> 00:26:32.880
Last year.

00:26:34.319 --> 00:26:35.119
Let's back up.

00:26:35.200 --> 00:26:36.160
Sorry I interrupted you.

00:26:36.319 --> 00:26:40.640
So you take them to somebody's shop and they talk to the kids about whatever it is.

00:26:40.880 --> 00:26:41.440
Yeah, yeah.

00:26:41.839 --> 00:26:42.319
Absolutely.

00:26:42.480 --> 00:26:48.240
Show them their cars, go over different aspects and learn about the different divisions and racing.

00:26:48.400 --> 00:26:52.160
They went to a legends shop a not too long ago.

00:26:52.480 --> 00:26:54.079
Now we're going to the late mall shop.

00:26:54.160 --> 00:27:02.400
So it's kind of cool because they can see where they want to be someday too as they grow out of the smaller, you know, divisions.

00:27:03.200 --> 00:27:04.559
So I'm involved in that.

00:27:04.720 --> 00:27:09.519
That's pretty exciting to be asked to be on the board this season.

00:27:09.839 --> 00:27:16.319
Last year, Lizzie and I actually hosted two big Easter egg hunts at two different tracks.

00:27:16.400 --> 00:27:17.839
So that was really cool.

00:27:18.559 --> 00:27:24.240
I feel like the more we do, the more outreach, because they are the next generation of drivers.

00:27:24.400 --> 00:27:26.480
So we have to keep the youth involved.

00:27:26.720 --> 00:27:30.720
But I'm just always looking at the future.

00:27:31.039 --> 00:27:34.000
And I love helping others.

00:27:34.480 --> 00:27:37.519
So, and Lizzie makes me super proud.

00:27:37.680 --> 00:27:42.960
So does Grace, but Grace is still kind of little, so she's still learning things.

00:27:43.200 --> 00:27:49.279
But through Lizzie's snuggles for clefts and helping other kids, we've sent packages all over.

00:27:49.839 --> 00:27:56.559
We're actually this week, we're taking packages to children's hospital of Pittsburgh, where Lizzie doctor's at.

00:27:56.720 --> 00:28:00.079
They're gonna have some in clinic for new families that come in.

00:28:00.240 --> 00:28:05.279
So that's been a dream of her since she was five, is to help other kids.

00:28:05.440 --> 00:28:12.160
And so it's not just what we do at the track, but but Lizzie makes me super proud.

00:28:12.319 --> 00:28:19.440
Mom, when she was five, she started up Lizzie Snuggles for Clefts to help other kids, and we've sent packages all over.

00:28:19.839 --> 00:28:26.240
And it really came from the racing community, was so involved when we had her.

00:28:26.720 --> 00:28:36.240
They were sending us gift cards because we were weekly at children's, and no one ever asked for something, but there was just always our friends at the track lending a hand.

00:28:36.559 --> 00:28:53.839
So we host events that we haven't had one in a year just because Lizzie's had some big surgeries and my other daughters had some medical issues, but we'd host and we have baskets and we would give awards to all the drivers, and it's truly grown.

00:28:54.000 --> 00:29:02.480
So the Lizzie Snuggles for Clef's brand that she has built has come from racing, and now we bless all other families.

00:29:02.640 --> 00:29:10.240
And we've actually blessed a couple of families that are part of the racing community too that have reached out to us and actually have cleft kids.

00:29:10.400 --> 00:29:16.480
So I didn't really know how many cleft kids there were in the world till I had my own.

00:29:16.799 --> 00:29:22.480
And it's not just a one surgery and done, it's ongoing procedures.

00:29:22.640 --> 00:29:25.839
She's going on surgery number 13 here in April.

00:29:26.079 --> 00:29:30.720
And I think it's really made her tough, very tough at a young age.

00:29:31.039 --> 00:29:33.119
So she's such an over overcomer.

00:29:33.200 --> 00:29:37.279
So, like the racing and the grit, and it just all fits together.

00:29:37.599 --> 00:29:39.039
But that's our passion.

00:29:39.119 --> 00:29:49.200
And we're gonna be taking packages here to UPMC Children's Pittsburgh this week to have in their clinic for some local families.

00:29:49.359 --> 00:29:53.440
So when their kids come in or they learn they're having a cleft child, they're prepared.

00:29:53.680 --> 00:29:56.079
But it has a book and a blanket.

00:29:56.319 --> 00:30:01.759
And eventually we're my husband's aunt is actually a she writes books.

00:30:02.000 --> 00:30:10.000
So my plan in the future is actually to have a book that Lizzie's involved in to put into our packages.

00:30:10.240 --> 00:30:16.880
But for right now, they have a bear, a book, and some toiletries for upcoming surgeries and stays.

00:30:17.039 --> 00:30:18.400
So it's pretty cool.

00:30:18.559 --> 00:30:26.799
You know, it's not just about our motor sports life, but outside of that, we're also always helping other people.

00:30:27.279 --> 00:30:28.880
Yeah, I love that you do that.

00:30:29.039 --> 00:30:38.400
And you know, I I along with that, I'm sure that you'd be willing to accept people who maybe want to help or give some donations for that.

00:30:38.559 --> 00:30:45.839
Maybe they have a grandchild with a cleft palette, and it's just hard to say where where would they get a hold of you?

00:30:46.000 --> 00:30:48.240
So if they wanted to send you something.

00:30:48.559 --> 00:30:50.160
You can find us on Facebook.

00:30:50.319 --> 00:30:58.640
We actually have a closed group just because we do post families and pictures, and I just know how social media is.

00:30:58.799 --> 00:31:01.759
So it's called Lizzie Snuggles for Clefts on Facebook.

00:31:01.839 --> 00:31:02.720
It's a closed group.

00:31:02.880 --> 00:31:12.240
You add, I will add you in, but it's kind of a safe haven for these kids and families because people can be mean, they really can.

00:31:12.400 --> 00:31:19.119
Lizzie's been bullied, and so this is our way of doing outreach, but still keeping it closed.

00:31:19.359 --> 00:31:29.119
And as far as donations, we do have it's a PO box 411 in Somerset, Pennsylvania, 15501.

00:31:29.759 --> 00:31:32.799
So any donations can also be sent there.

00:31:33.119 --> 00:31:51.839
That's awesome, and I encourage anybody that's listening, and it doesn't have to be a lot, it's just you know, go to the dollar store, get some little toiletries, you know, get some colored pencils and a coloring book, just anything that you could put into a packet for a child.

00:31:51.920 --> 00:31:54.559
And like I said, they don't all have to be the same, you know.

00:31:54.720 --> 00:31:59.519
I don't know how you do it exactly, but I think everyone could be different if that's what you had.

00:32:00.160 --> 00:32:01.279
Yeah, absolutely.

00:32:01.519 --> 00:32:06.640
Every we try to just match kind of by the age group of the child we're dealing with.

00:32:06.799 --> 00:32:13.119
So some older kids, but it's definitely an ongoing process, and a lot of people don't understand that.

00:32:13.200 --> 00:32:14.799
They're like, oh, it's just that want.

00:32:14.960 --> 00:32:16.640
I'm like, no, it's really not.

00:32:16.720 --> 00:32:28.640
It's you know, Lizzie has hearing aids, she has hearing it loss, she has we've gone through speech therapy and occupational therapy, so it's really an ongoing process as they grow.

00:32:28.960 --> 00:32:29.599
Yeah.

00:32:29.920 --> 00:32:39.039
And in as kid with kids that have those kinds of things, as they grow, things change, and that's why she has to have so many surgeries, right?

00:32:39.279 --> 00:32:39.599
Yep.

00:32:39.759 --> 00:32:41.200
So keep her in your prayers.

00:32:41.359 --> 00:32:52.960
April 29th, we're going back in for surgery, so it's gonna be the same procedure she's had before, but unfortunately it didn't take so okay, all right, and then there's that, right?

00:32:53.039 --> 00:32:56.640
You know, you think you're gonna have it fixed and then you have to do it over.

00:32:56.799 --> 00:32:58.960
I mean, it's just it's life, Caitlin.

00:32:59.200 --> 00:33:12.079
Unfortunately, it it seems that it's unfair for Lizzie and Gracelyn, and yet they're they're using those things that they're dealing with to help others.

00:33:12.240 --> 00:33:21.119
And how can you how can you not be so proud and want to be a part of that when you see little girls who are helping others?

00:33:21.519 --> 00:33:33.200
I had Lizzie so young, and you know, I didn't know what I was getting to into at that time, but it's really I think it's grown me into the person I am today.

00:33:33.680 --> 00:33:37.279
And would I have had the guts years ago to get on stage?

00:33:37.519 --> 00:33:39.599
Absolutely, absolutely not.

00:33:39.839 --> 00:33:47.680
But you know, if my daughter can live day to day with all this stuff, then it just makes me look at life totally different.

00:33:47.920 --> 00:33:48.559
Yeah, yeah.

00:33:48.960 --> 00:33:54.559
And you know, I actually had a mom one day at basketball practice, she's like, I don't know how you do it.

00:33:54.720 --> 00:33:56.559
And I'm like, I don't know either.

00:33:56.720 --> 00:34:04.640
But you just put that smile on you, you know, you have no other choice but to be that positive person for them in that safe space.

00:34:04.880 --> 00:34:18.880
So yeah, it's grown me as a person, and it's I mean, even them, you know, Lizzie is just them and Gracelyn, they're just but the most loving people, and it makes me so proud to be their mom.

00:34:19.280 --> 00:34:22.320
Yeah, and it makes me proud to know you guys.

00:34:22.400 --> 00:34:26.400
So I'm I'm glad I'm looking over here half tearing up talking about it.

00:34:26.880 --> 00:34:50.239
Yeah, I know, and so um I'm so glad that I ran across Lizzie, I think is how I found her, and then I met you guys, and so it makes me proud to know that there's people out there that want to help others, even besides what they're going through themselves, and so that's yeah, when it's pretty cool, is so not to like keep you, but no, it's fine.

00:34:50.639 --> 00:34:58.079
Lizzie got to go, she met Kyle Petty, and he actually invited, he said, Have you ever been to camp?

00:34:58.239 --> 00:35:17.519
We were just on his ride, we just went to you know, give our support on the ride, and it was it came through Bedford PA, and he's like, She had a sign up and just said, Thanks for helping kids like me, and that's all she wanted, you know, was to say thank you and give our you know part.

00:35:17.679 --> 00:35:19.360
And he was like, Have you ever been there?

00:35:19.519 --> 00:35:57.440
He's just like, No, well, she applied, and long story short, but she got in last year, and it was it's so insane to be on the taking side of things because we're so used to giving that it felt so strange, but she has grown so much from being able to be around kids that you know have we'll say not disabilities, but kind of like her, it is a disability, but so it's pretty cool, and hopefully she has her application in, so she's really hoping to get to go back, and yeah, it's grown her confidence too being around other kids.

00:35:58.079 --> 00:36:09.280
Oh, I'm sure because you know, there's times I'm sure they think that they're the only ones because there's not a whole room full of kids at school that look like that, or do you deal with that?

00:36:09.599 --> 00:36:13.599
She's actually an ambassador for Victory Junction, so it's pretty cool.

00:36:13.920 --> 00:36:18.800
That's very cool, and we can't forget she was a racing for heroes.

00:36:19.119 --> 00:36:26.639
Yeah, she was a Who's Your Tire Hero for 2025, and she was actually the youngest that's received the awards.

00:36:26.719 --> 00:36:31.360
So I think that's where I first saw her, was on the stage that day, yeah.

00:36:31.519 --> 00:36:49.039
So and she's like so humble, like she was so excited, but yet she's so humble, and she's not one to like just throw something in your face, which makes me even more proud because like yeah, she's super excited though, and it was really cool opportunity, yeah.

00:36:49.119 --> 00:36:54.800
And I if I remember correctly that day, she she didn't have a word to say on the stage.

00:36:56.159 --> 00:36:58.480
She was unspoken, yes.

00:36:58.880 --> 00:37:06.960
She was there, and she was in pr she was present, but she was not verbal, she did not want to talk.

00:37:07.840 --> 00:37:14.000
She's really she even since she did the podcast with you, she's finally starting to come out of her shell.

00:37:14.079 --> 00:37:19.039
And I've been trying to do like some small clips for our Facebook page and social media.

00:37:19.280 --> 00:37:19.599
Yeah.

00:37:19.760 --> 00:37:30.320
And I'm like, listen, you're not live, so it doesn't matter how many times it takes you to get out what you want, but this is how you become better at you know, speaking.

00:37:30.559 --> 00:37:37.599
And honestly, it took nine years for us to get a second opinion on her hearing.

00:37:37.679 --> 00:37:40.000
We've always just been told she has hearing loss.

00:37:40.320 --> 00:37:45.679
Okay, but we're nine years old now, and nothing's gonna get better, nothing's gonna change.

00:37:46.239 --> 00:37:54.239
So we got a second opinion, and her speech and everything, her grades, everything, she's excelling so much.

00:37:54.480 --> 00:38:09.280
So it's just pretty cool that you know it's just she's cut overcome so much, and yeah, so I'm excited about this next step and hearing her speak more because it's changed so much.

00:38:09.840 --> 00:38:18.000
Oh, yeah, and you know, shame on those doctors for not suggesting something different or a second opinion.

00:38:18.719 --> 00:38:25.840
And you know, you you just think if you can't hear something, then how do you know how to say it or all those things?

00:38:25.920 --> 00:38:27.039
It all works together.

00:38:27.199 --> 00:38:37.039
God made us so that all of our parts work together, and she just needed a little encouragement and maybe a different doctor, a different therapist.

00:38:37.360 --> 00:38:39.599
You have to be an advocate, you know.

00:38:39.760 --> 00:38:42.320
You definitely have to be an advocate for your kids.

00:38:42.559 --> 00:38:47.519
Absolutely, absolutely for yourself as well, but especially for your kids, yeah.

00:38:47.679 --> 00:38:48.000
Yep.

00:38:48.239 --> 00:38:51.679
Well, Caitlin, thank you for sharing about your family.

00:38:52.000 --> 00:38:55.039
No, thank you so much for having me on the show.

00:38:55.280 --> 00:39:00.159
I just I I love your guys, I love your family, I follow you all the time.

00:39:00.320 --> 00:39:05.840
I I'm one of your stalkers, you know, but um that's okay, I love it.

00:39:07.039 --> 00:39:14.320
So you take care of those girls and you tell them that I said hello and let's stay in touch as I know we will.

00:39:14.400 --> 00:39:22.400
And and if anybody out there can help donating just some items for these kids that come into the hospital.

00:39:22.559 --> 00:39:34.320
And if you're you know, if you don't live in Pennsylvania, you live in in Ohio or Nevada or somewhere else, check with your local children's hospital and see if they have any way that you can help.

00:39:34.480 --> 00:39:37.760
And and we all need to reach out and help in some way or another.

00:39:38.159 --> 00:39:44.559
Yeah, there's so many hospitals and you know, so many different divisions, and there's so many kids that need help out there.

00:39:44.880 --> 00:39:46.159
They do, they do.

00:39:46.400 --> 00:39:47.920
Well, Caitlin, thank you again.

00:39:48.079 --> 00:39:54.320
I hope you have a great evening and tell your family that I said hello and please stay in touch.

00:39:54.639 --> 00:39:55.679
Thank you, Melinda.

00:39:55.760 --> 00:39:56.800
Have a blessed night.

00:39:57.119 --> 00:39:57.760
