Robyn Douthit didn’t grow up in drag racing—until life (and love) brought her into it. In this episode, she shares how reconnecting with her husband in 2009 led to a wild, rewarding motorsports lifestyle: a full-time RV family traveling across the country to put on jet-car exhibition shows. Robyn explains how JetCarsRock books events, why relationship-building with tracks matters, and what fans don’t see behind the scenes—maintenance, logistics, blip sheets, interviews, and constant content creation. She also addresses safety myths about jet cars, how their team prioritizes being good partners to tracks and racers, and why engagement on social media is a make-or-break factor for sponsors and venues. If you’ve ever wondered where you fit in motorsports without driving, Robyn’s story will light a fire.

This is the Women's Motorsports Network Podcast, connecting and celebrating women in motorsports one story at a time.

00:00:55.280 --> 00:00:56.719
Let's hit the track.

00:01:02.399 --> 00:01:03.359
Hello everyone.

00:01:03.520 --> 00:01:07.599
This is Melinda Russell with the Women's Motorsports Network Podcast.

00:01:07.760 --> 00:01:12.719
And Robin is my guest today, and I'm gonna let her tell us more about herself.

00:01:12.879 --> 00:01:15.280
So, Robin, I want to welcome you to the show.

00:01:15.519 --> 00:01:18.640
And would you start by sharing about yourself?

00:01:19.040 --> 00:01:21.359
Yes, thank you so much for having me, Melinda.

00:01:21.439 --> 00:01:22.640
I appreciate it.

00:01:23.120 --> 00:01:27.840
My name is Robin, and I was born and raised in San Diego, California.

00:01:28.079 --> 00:01:33.359
And when I was 21, I moved to Colorado, and that's where I had been for a very, very long time.

00:01:34.879 --> 00:01:43.280
I wasn't in the business of racing until I met my husband.

00:01:43.599 --> 00:01:46.079
And so I don't here I am.

00:01:46.159 --> 00:01:48.560
Like I we travel on the road, we do all these things.

00:01:48.640 --> 00:01:53.519
We are a full-time RV family and we entertain people with our jet-powered cars.

00:01:53.840 --> 00:01:54.719
Exactly.

00:01:54.959 --> 00:02:07.040
And so, you know, totally different lifestyle than most people have, but one that works for you guys, which is great, and and your little doggy back there that we can see in the background.

00:02:07.200 --> 00:02:11.439
If if you're watching it, we do record video as well.

00:02:11.520 --> 00:02:22.000
But if you're if you're just listening, she has a beautiful little dog that's laying in his bed and and loves his mama and so has to stay close close by.

00:02:22.639 --> 00:02:31.680
So when about what year did you meet your husband and get interested in motorsports or get thrown into the motorsports world?

00:02:32.000 --> 00:02:32.560
Right.

00:02:32.800 --> 00:02:38.479
So in 2009, when Facebook was just coming around, I was single, he was single.

00:02:38.639 --> 00:02:42.000
We went to high school together, graduated the same year, same school.

00:02:42.159 --> 00:02:43.360
So we knew each other.

00:02:43.520 --> 00:02:46.400
We actually met in eighth grade on a trip to Washington, DC.

00:02:46.560 --> 00:02:53.919
We knew of each other our whole lives, and we pretty much ran in the same circles, but we never really hung out with each other.

00:02:54.000 --> 00:02:55.439
We never had any classes together.

00:02:55.520 --> 00:02:56.800
It was just the weirdest thing.

00:02:57.039 --> 00:03:02.719
But in 2009, when Facebook was coming around, we met each other on Facebook, and the rest is history.

00:03:02.800 --> 00:03:04.960
So that's been about 17 years now.

00:03:05.280 --> 00:03:05.840
Wow.

00:03:06.080 --> 00:03:07.439
Isn't that interesting?

00:03:07.680 --> 00:03:22.639
And you know, there's good and bad, obviously, about social media, but isn't that a great, a great way because there's kids like I went to a really small school, there were only about maybe 40 or 50 kids in our class.

00:03:22.879 --> 00:03:26.240
So we everybody knew everybody, but you lose track.

00:03:26.400 --> 00:03:39.599
Like I live in Michigan now, I grew up in Illinois, and so to be able to reconnect that way and then end up, you know, getting married and having this wonderful life together, it's really cool, actually.

00:03:39.919 --> 00:03:54.960
It is, it is, and I kind of got thrown into it because when we first met each other, he said I because he was married previously, and he and his and his wife assumed that he would stop racing after they had children.

00:03:55.280 --> 00:04:08.719
But as we all know, a lot of men and some women, I have not met a lot of women that have the same craziness and craziness in a good way, yeah, the obsession that racing is in the blood.

00:04:08.800 --> 00:04:13.680
It is it is from an outsider looking in, it is phenomenal.

00:04:13.840 --> 00:04:19.519
So he said that that will never get in the way of his relationship with anyone else again.

00:04:19.759 --> 00:04:23.600
And here I am doing doing the thing, you know.

00:04:23.920 --> 00:04:24.399
Yeah.

00:04:24.639 --> 00:04:30.160
So did you really know anything at all about racing or any any of that?

00:04:30.240 --> 00:04:31.920
Did you ever watch it on television?

00:04:32.160 --> 00:04:35.600
Your family liked it, or this was all brand new?

00:04:36.000 --> 00:04:38.560
I really knew nothing about drag racing.

00:04:38.639 --> 00:04:47.519
I've I saw like the big cars on TV with the flames coming out the side, and like kind of am able to use that to describe what we do now to people that have no idea.

00:04:47.759 --> 00:04:54.560
But other than that, I I grew up in circle track, just regular circle track racing, going on Saturday nights and stuff like that with my dad.

00:04:54.639 --> 00:05:03.759
We never really did any, we never got in the cars, we never went into the pits, was never really immersed into that industry at all.

00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:06.000
So yeah, yeah.

00:05:06.319 --> 00:05:13.040
So in 2009, you you know, you found this relationship, you found this lifestyle.

00:05:13.199 --> 00:05:17.040
How long have you been living it like doing the RV life?

00:05:17.920 --> 00:05:22.160
We sold our house about four years ago, just over four years ago.

00:05:22.240 --> 00:05:34.639
So we've been full-time RVers for four years, and I think we put a little different twist onto the RV life of things when we were working with the RV industry on certain things, and then another one with the racing industry.

00:05:34.720 --> 00:05:39.439
So it's kind of a unique situation, and I know there's only a couple other racers that do that.

00:05:39.759 --> 00:05:40.879
Yeah, yeah.

00:05:40.959 --> 00:05:47.120
A lot, I mean, you don't hear a lot about racers living in their RV full time.

00:05:47.279 --> 00:05:52.639
They travel with it, they take it to the racetrack, but then they go home somewhere.

00:05:52.959 --> 00:06:02.079
And so when it's not race season, then do you have like a home base where you go and stay, which is kind of your home?

00:06:02.480 --> 00:06:04.480
No, and we're working on that.

00:06:04.639 --> 00:06:05.519
We are working on that.

00:06:05.680 --> 00:06:07.839
We have a lot of friends around the country.

00:06:08.079 --> 00:06:10.480
You we've been racing cars.

00:06:10.639 --> 00:06:18.639
Well, I say we I've only been doing this for 17 years, so I feel like I'm just be kind of coming into my own and understanding things better.

00:06:18.959 --> 00:06:25.759
And my mental capacity for learning things is not really up there when it comes to keeping up with all the different types of cars that are out there and stuff.

00:06:25.839 --> 00:06:41.759
I'm just kind of immersed in my own little world, but you know, it it's it's a learning curve, and I'm just I just I don't know, it's just exciting to be here, but I just don't understand sometimes some of the semantics, and I'm just beginning to understand more.

00:06:42.000 --> 00:06:44.319
So okay, all right.

00:06:44.639 --> 00:06:49.839
So your husband was a was or is a drag racer, right?

00:06:50.319 --> 00:06:54.079
Yeah, and exhibition drag drag racing only.

00:06:54.399 --> 00:06:59.680
The company got their first or us, our business started in 1985.

00:06:59.759 --> 00:07:02.560
They got their first jet-powered funny car or jet car.

00:07:02.639 --> 00:07:04.720
Sorry, it wasn't a funny car, it was a jet car.

00:07:04.879 --> 00:07:09.600
So we've been in this industry entertaining fans with the jet cars for 41 years.

00:07:09.680 --> 00:07:16.399
And before that, his dad had a wheel stander, and he's extremely well known across this country as an entertainer.

00:07:16.639 --> 00:07:18.560
Smoky Joe Doth is his name.

00:07:18.639 --> 00:07:20.399
He's still alive, he's 86 years old.

00:07:20.480 --> 00:07:21.759
He travels with us still.

00:07:22.000 --> 00:07:24.000
He goes to some of our events every summer.

00:07:24.079 --> 00:07:25.120
Him and his wife do.

00:07:25.360 --> 00:07:27.519
He's 86 and she's 81.

00:07:27.680 --> 00:07:33.040
And so 41 years in the business, and that's that's all David knows.

00:07:33.199 --> 00:07:34.000
That's all he knows.

00:07:34.160 --> 00:07:40.959
He's he's had jobs over the years, but he has continued the exhibition thing since he was 18 years old.

00:07:41.040 --> 00:07:42.240
He's had his license.

00:07:42.480 --> 00:07:46.639
Yeah, so for 32 years this summer, he's been driving jet cars.

00:07:46.720 --> 00:07:51.680
That's all he's ever driven down the track, with the exception of a wheelstander.

00:07:51.920 --> 00:07:53.920
So that is amazing.

00:07:54.079 --> 00:07:55.759
That is just amazing.

00:07:56.079 --> 00:08:03.040
So tell me some uh first of all, I want to know how do you get like scheduled?

00:08:03.120 --> 00:08:07.279
I'm sure you have tracks that just every year they want you to come for certain things.

00:08:08.000 --> 00:08:09.360
Is that how it works?

00:08:09.519 --> 00:08:13.120
You know, you've been doing this a long time, and so that you're well known.

00:08:13.519 --> 00:08:17.040
They they want you to come for those certain big events.

00:08:17.439 --> 00:08:21.040
Do you get new tracks that want you to come?

00:08:21.120 --> 00:08:22.480
How does that part of it all work?

00:08:22.639 --> 00:08:23.439
The scheduling.

00:08:24.079 --> 00:08:29.279
David is really good at uh keeping the tracks.

00:08:31.040 --> 00:08:32.799
I I he is so good at it.

00:08:32.960 --> 00:08:37.039
He he he's such a uh nice guy, right?

00:08:37.200 --> 00:08:54.720
So every time he'll call and he talks to the tracks and he gets the right phone numbers, he does a lot of research, he builds connections, he builds trust with these tracks, and so yeah, it is they they if a track has ever had a jet car, they've probably had one of our cars there before.

00:08:54.960 --> 00:09:04.000
So he's I give him a lot of credit because he just does, he keeps an even keel with the tracks, and they seem to really, I think they seem to love him.

00:09:04.159 --> 00:09:06.720
Oh yeah, they he's just he just goes with the flow.

00:09:06.799 --> 00:09:10.639
We do get rehired back at many of the tracks over and over and over again.

00:09:10.879 --> 00:09:15.039
So and things are growing out there, so it's really nice to see.

00:09:15.840 --> 00:09:24.240
It is nice to see, and I can see where the exhibition cars would be a big draw to get people to come, you know, to the track.

00:09:24.320 --> 00:09:26.320
So, how many cars do you have?

00:09:27.679 --> 00:09:40.399
Out of all honesty, we have four, and most teams have one or two or just one, and we started off with one and kind of worked our way up to where he's at right now, and he's not done.

00:09:40.639 --> 00:09:43.519
But right now, this is about what we can handle.

00:09:43.919 --> 00:09:54.799
So uh we have four jet funny cars, and we have a pirate theme with these jet funny cars, so and we have six drivers, six or seven drivers.

00:09:54.960 --> 00:10:07.039
I I didn't even put that number together before we came on, but yeah, we have a few drivers that we work with, and it just keeps growing and growing, and I'm along for the ride, and I'm here to help, obviously.

00:10:07.679 --> 00:10:09.840
So I'm gonna put you on the spot.

00:10:10.000 --> 00:10:15.279
What is your main role in the business or to keep things running?

00:10:15.919 --> 00:10:22.639
His main role is to do make sure the cars are maintained and to book ours, and I do everything else.

00:10:22.879 --> 00:10:29.679
So I do all the social media, I do, I set up all of the pre-events.

00:10:30.320 --> 00:10:32.559
We actually work together with a lot of that stuff.

00:10:32.720 --> 00:10:34.639
We are working, we work together daily.

00:10:34.799 --> 00:10:37.759
We're in the same space as each other all day, every day.

00:10:37.919 --> 00:10:56.159
So we we do we work together with all of that, but I do all the behind the scenes stuff as as much as humanly possible, all the writing, all the social media, setting up his interviews, making sure that the tower has the blip sheets that they can read off to talk about the cars.

00:10:56.799 --> 00:10:57.679
You name it.

00:10:57.840 --> 00:10:58.559
I do it all.

00:10:58.639 --> 00:11:03.120
And yeah, it takes it's I feel like I could use a couple of assistants.

00:11:03.440 --> 00:11:03.840
Yeah.

00:11:04.159 --> 00:11:06.720
Because that's more than a full-time job.

00:11:07.200 --> 00:11:08.080
It really is.

00:11:08.240 --> 00:11:08.960
It really is.

00:11:09.039 --> 00:11:24.159
And then having to deal with anything personal, you know, being away from family, all the different things that we deal with, being on the road, not being able to be able to work on the cars where we need to, when we need to, because we don't have like that home base.

00:11:24.399 --> 00:11:26.399
So hopefully we're gonna we're working on that.

00:11:26.480 --> 00:11:34.000
We're we've been all over the country, and I just haven't been able to find a city that is perfect for us.

00:11:34.240 --> 00:11:34.559
Yeah.

00:11:34.720 --> 00:11:36.399
And maybe it's just not we're not ready.

00:11:36.480 --> 00:11:39.840
We found a couple that we really love, but they get snow, and we do not do snow.

00:11:40.080 --> 00:11:42.720
We'll do a little snow, we're not gonna do a lot of snow.

00:11:43.519 --> 00:12:03.360
No, and I live in Michigan, and and so we have had about eight to ten inches pretty pretty consistently until the last couple of days, and it's warmed up like into the almost 40s, and it's gonna be in the 40s this weekend, so we're gonna lose some of it, which is fine.

00:12:03.600 --> 00:12:08.320
You know, I had back surgery as I told you, so I can't drive or really go anywhere anyway.

00:12:08.399 --> 00:12:12.720
And riding in the car is one of the worst things that I can do.

00:12:12.879 --> 00:12:19.200
So I don't really care how much snow there is right now or how cold it is because I'm stuck inside.

00:12:19.440 --> 00:12:24.720
But if I had my choice, I would be somewhere where it was warm and sunny.

00:12:24.799 --> 00:12:27.360
Like my daughters live in Arizona, two of them.

00:12:27.600 --> 00:12:31.759
I would be there full time because I I could care less about the snow.

00:12:31.919 --> 00:12:41.919
Yeah, we would be in San Diego if if the racing industry and drag racing was prominent in the western side of our country, but it's not.

00:12:42.000 --> 00:12:47.519
So we kind of stick to the eastern side, and and wintering in Florida has been an amazing option.

00:12:47.679 --> 00:12:51.440
It's gonna be 76 degrees today, and it's February 11th.

00:12:51.600 --> 00:12:53.519
Yeah, so I'm excited about that.

00:12:53.679 --> 00:12:56.559
We do have some clouds today, so yeah.

00:12:56.960 --> 00:13:10.559
But but right now, Florida is the hot, hot spot to be, as uh the uh Daytona race uh is this weekend, and this week has been in evolution, all those places.

00:13:10.639 --> 00:13:18.320
There's been a lot of racing, and so you yeah, this time of year, Florida is really where you want to be if you're involved in racing.

00:13:18.559 --> 00:13:21.279
So when does your do you have like a season?

00:13:21.360 --> 00:13:27.360
Like when does it kind of start and and when does it, you know, kind of you know, when's the end of it?

00:13:27.600 --> 00:13:31.679
And tell me about that, and then where all do you travel to?

00:13:32.000 --> 00:13:32.320
Okay.

00:13:32.960 --> 00:13:37.279
Well, our schedule is always updated at jetcarsrock.com.

00:13:37.519 --> 00:13:51.279
And I just posted that on Groundhog's Day, which is February 2nd, and we we start this year, we'll start on May 14th, I believe, in Panama City, just north of Panama City at the North Florida Motorplex.

00:13:51.360 --> 00:13:55.519
We love that little place, and then from there, it just we're all over the place.

00:13:55.600 --> 00:14:02.080
We're as far north as Canada, and we go as far east, we're going to Epping, New Hampshire, twice this year.

00:14:02.159 --> 00:14:05.679
It's their 60th anniversary for the track being open.

00:14:05.759 --> 00:14:08.399
So we're excited to be at two of their events this year.

00:14:08.480 --> 00:14:10.720
Uh, it's a long haul for us, but we're excited.

00:14:10.799 --> 00:14:19.759
We're going to Wisconsin, we have a few in Ohio, we have one in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area in Ringold, Georgia.

00:14:19.919 --> 00:14:20.960
We are just all over the place.

00:14:21.200 --> 00:14:24.960
Tulsa, Oklahoma, as far west as we go this year.

00:14:25.440 --> 00:14:25.679
Okay.

00:14:25.919 --> 00:14:27.600
And we do book, we have a bookend.

00:14:27.759 --> 00:14:30.639
We're bookend with uh the North Florida Motorplex.

00:14:30.720 --> 00:14:37.600
So the first and last race is in Panama City, and then the first, second, and second to last race is in Tulsa.

00:14:37.759 --> 00:14:39.759
So we're excited for both of those.

00:14:40.000 --> 00:14:40.639
Yeah.

00:14:41.039 --> 00:14:46.000
Do you come to US 131 Motorsports park in Michigan?

00:14:46.399 --> 00:14:48.240
We not not this year.

00:14:48.399 --> 00:14:49.519
We're not booked there this year.

00:14:49.600 --> 00:14:55.360
There's lots of changes in the tracks and track management and track ownership, as we know.

00:14:55.679 --> 00:15:02.879
And so a lot of this stuff is kind of the jet cars are kind of put to the back end of things until they can get things figured out.

00:15:02.960 --> 00:15:04.320
I I feel that way.

00:15:04.480 --> 00:15:05.200
We're booked.

00:15:05.279 --> 00:15:09.200
We have 18 shows this year, so we're not balking at any of that.

00:15:09.279 --> 00:15:11.840
We're very grateful for what we have for sure.

00:15:12.080 --> 00:15:14.799
Yeah, that's a lot, that's a lot of travel.

00:15:15.039 --> 00:15:15.440
It is.

00:15:15.519 --> 00:15:21.440
We do about 18 to 20,000 miles um in about a six-month period.

00:15:21.919 --> 00:15:22.559
Wow.

00:15:23.039 --> 00:15:33.919
And so you drive you have your RV, and then does it pull something, or do you have a truck and something else that pulls the cars, or somebody else brings the cars?

00:15:34.080 --> 00:15:35.200
How does that work?

00:15:35.440 --> 00:15:39.360
Well, right now we have uh an NRC conversion coach.

00:15:39.519 --> 00:15:41.120
Um, it's a beautiful coach.

00:15:41.200 --> 00:15:42.080
I love this thing.

00:15:42.240 --> 00:15:45.360
It's 19 years old, it's got 250,000 miles on it.

00:15:45.440 --> 00:15:46.639
It's just an amazing coach.

00:15:46.799 --> 00:15:49.519
I could I we've we've talked to them several times.

00:15:49.600 --> 00:15:51.440
They're such such an amazing company.

00:15:51.600 --> 00:15:53.200
Uh, so we're very grateful to have this.

00:15:53.360 --> 00:15:54.080
We got it used.

00:15:54.240 --> 00:16:12.320
And then um we pull behind a 40-foot, 45-foot trailer that we're uh uh it's um we've never had a new trailer before, and a company reached out to us and we're working with them to uh get a new trailer because ours was in an accident this last summer.

00:16:12.559 --> 00:16:17.679
So um the cars were fine for the most part, but the trailer was not.

00:16:17.919 --> 00:16:20.320
So there's that.

00:16:20.960 --> 00:16:22.320
Those things are bound to happen.

00:16:22.799 --> 00:16:23.360
They're Robin.

00:16:23.600 --> 00:16:24.720
There's always something.

00:16:24.960 --> 00:16:26.480
I said there's always something.

00:16:26.720 --> 00:16:29.519
There is, there is, and it's not.

00:16:29.679 --> 00:16:45.039
Um, I mean, it's we all know that racing takes massive amounts of dollars, and um, even though we get paid to show up and put on an event, it's still we still we do struggle the same as any other racer out there.

00:16:45.120 --> 00:16:47.200
So yeah, yeah, for sure.

00:16:47.360 --> 00:16:56.639
So do you have any sponsors like on your cars or anything that um like when you go to these shows, it helps sponsor a certain company.

00:16:56.720 --> 00:17:00.720
I would think that would be something that maybe you do.

00:17:01.600 --> 00:17:06.319
We have a few that we're working with, um, nothing giant.

00:17:06.559 --> 00:17:11.119
Uh they're just amazing little companies that are some of them are local.

00:17:11.279 --> 00:17:14.720
Uh we have amazing gunsmith in Ohio.

00:17:14.880 --> 00:17:20.960
They're like a they do a lot of transfers for people across the country, and they're they've kind of turned into friends.

00:17:21.119 --> 00:17:22.720
And so they've been following us around.

00:17:22.799 --> 00:17:24.400
That's lighthouse gunsmiths.

00:17:24.559 --> 00:17:29.599
And then um we have RJS Racing, they've been supporting us from the very beginning.

00:17:29.759 --> 00:17:34.160
Um, we don't do a lot of exchanges with them, they don't ex they have no expectations.

00:17:34.480 --> 00:17:36.799
Um, RJS racing equipment.

00:17:37.119 --> 00:17:42.000
We have um just a few other little ones and we're working on some bigger ones.

00:17:42.160 --> 00:17:49.440
We we're always working on bigger ones, but um, as you know, it's not easy getting sponsorship in in racing.

00:17:49.519 --> 00:18:08.319
And what I what I feel is different between us and other racers is that we do have an attention getter, and so we try to teach companies that this is an attention getter, but um, it's still very difficult to get uh sponsorship for jet cars, even so right.

00:18:08.640 --> 00:18:19.759
I'm sure it is, but I I just am sitting here thinking that what you have is unique and it does draw people to the track for sure.

00:18:20.160 --> 00:19:02.480
Um and a sponsor, you know, even somebody who um you know supplies parts for jet cars or parts for dragsters or whatever would be crazy not to be a sponsor because people are gonna be going to the concessions or whatever, but when that when you guys come on the track, they want to be in their seat because you're like the special event of of the weekend, and so yeah, it's you know, a lot of it is it's all about us teaching those people the importance and and what they could get out of it, and they don't always understand, plus the social media that you provide, yeah.

00:19:03.279 --> 00:19:18.960
The social media is huge for us, and a lot of the people that have come on board with us over the last couple of years um don't understand their own social media, and that is the hardest thing because we we in social media is all about engagement, yeah.

00:19:19.119 --> 00:19:24.720
And we we post and there's no engagement from our sponsors, and it's like okay, we need engagement.

00:19:24.880 --> 00:19:26.079
Oh, another one is Optima.

00:19:26.319 --> 00:19:27.759
Optima has given us batteries.

00:19:27.839 --> 00:19:32.000
It takes about it takes three batteries to start a jet car, at least ours.

00:19:32.240 --> 00:19:38.000
And Optima has given us batteries over the years, and we we love their batteries.

00:19:38.160 --> 00:20:01.440
Yeah, we do so so see that's a great that's a great company to be a sponsor for you because not only do you use and love their product, but you're gonna talk about it, you're gonna share on social media about it, and there's other companies that could benefit from all that, but we have to educate those people, and it's hard.

00:20:01.680 --> 00:20:17.359
I think getting them to the track to see and experience is probably number one, and that's hard too, because you might be in Tulsa and the company is in New Hampshire or something, you know.

00:20:18.000 --> 00:20:34.319
And so, you know, it's hard, but don't give up, Robin, because I think I think I know motorsports is growing just from the interactions and and the things that I do, and women in motorsports is really growing.

00:20:35.200 --> 00:20:40.960
Just I I come across hundreds, literally, hundreds of names every week.

00:20:41.119 --> 00:21:03.119
If I had the time to sit down and keep track of all those names in that, and I do the best I can, but but I could spend, you know, I could spend 12 hours a day, seven days a week, just going on to track websites or whatever and finding the names of women that are involved in motorsports.

00:21:03.359 --> 00:21:06.160
It's it's amazing to see, it's awesome to see.

00:21:06.240 --> 00:21:12.559
I see that not only are they excelling in social media, but they're also excelling on the track.

00:21:12.880 --> 00:21:26.240
And I love that these major television networks are not just in motorsports, but in general, are choosing women as announcers and also knowledgeable drivers.

00:21:26.480 --> 00:21:30.319
These these women are just they they have that same a lot.

00:21:30.400 --> 00:21:37.119
I I have a jealousy for them because they have that same thing that my husband has, that obsession to go racing.

00:21:37.200 --> 00:21:41.680
And there's really not much else besides uh, I mean, their family and racing.

00:21:41.839 --> 00:21:54.079
And if you can find a couple that loves doing it together, those are the ones that are just the power couple because they can they can excel each other and push each other to go in that same direction if they're both focused in that same direction.

00:21:54.240 --> 00:21:59.599
So I feel that we're at that point now, and as a couple, that we are.

00:22:00.319 --> 00:22:05.759
He's understanding that there's a different place for me as as well for him.

00:22:05.920 --> 00:22:07.839
So I'm I appreciate it.

00:22:07.920 --> 00:22:08.640
I really do.

00:22:08.880 --> 00:22:11.039
I I talked to you last year about this.

00:22:11.200 --> 00:22:12.319
I said, I'm not a driver.

00:22:12.400 --> 00:22:14.799
And you're like, it's not just about driving.

00:22:14.960 --> 00:22:16.640
You know, I don't ever want to drive.

00:22:16.799 --> 00:22:20.960
I don't have I get to go down the track every single day in my little car.

00:22:21.119 --> 00:22:30.480
Every time the jet car goes down the track, I go in front of it in our little car and wait for the drivers at the end to help with their parachutes so they don't burn off.

00:22:30.720 --> 00:22:34.319
And I I miss the show, I miss everything.

00:22:34.640 --> 00:22:40.880
And so yeah, there is a place, there is definitely a place in this world for me and for all women.

00:22:41.119 --> 00:22:48.640
And and I say that in general because without men, we wouldn't have a sport, but uh it's definitely taking a little bit of a turn.

00:22:48.720 --> 00:22:50.559
And I I I really like it.

00:22:50.880 --> 00:23:02.720
Yeah, and and you know, when when you say, you know, a couple, he has his role, you have your role, but together you're you're on the same path, you're going down the same direction.

00:23:03.279 --> 00:23:14.880
And he couldn't succeed without the things that you do, and you wouldn't need to do those things without you know the the exhibition cars and the other drivers and everything.

00:23:15.119 --> 00:23:40.799
So I I love that it's you know kind of a a business where you need each other and you help each other and you're just growing, growing, growing, because the more that you're at these events, and then somebody somebody's like, oh, you know, talks to a an owner in a different track and said, Oh, you should have these guys at your event, and that's how that's how it works.

00:23:40.960 --> 00:23:43.200
And so, and building those relationships.

00:23:43.359 --> 00:23:47.359
I know you said, you know, he's really good at that, and that and that's what it takes.

00:23:47.519 --> 00:23:52.640
It takes building the relationships with these track owners, promoters, etc.

00:23:53.200 --> 00:23:55.680
Yeah, I I really I appreciate them.

00:23:55.759 --> 00:24:00.480
And and and every track is different, and every track treats us different differently.

00:24:00.720 --> 00:24:17.680
Some tracks are way more welcoming, and some tracks, you know, they listen to some of the the generations that maybe don't like jet cars, but usually we're we're treated extremely well, and we will we usually get booked back in.

00:24:17.759 --> 00:24:20.000
There's so many tracks that we keep going back to.

00:24:20.319 --> 00:24:26.240
I love that the tracks are improving their improving their grandstand and improving everything.

00:24:26.319 --> 00:24:30.319
There's so many different things that they could be also doing for themselves to promote themselves.

00:24:30.480 --> 00:24:43.359
So as a little bit of insight coming coming off of like live social media that I do almost every single day, I keep asking these tracks, hey, you need to do this or you need to do that, and they're not helping themselves.

00:24:43.599 --> 00:24:47.279
So um hopefully they will because uh there's value in it.

00:24:48.240 --> 00:24:49.759
Oh, there's so much value in it.

00:24:49.839 --> 00:24:56.720
And and I think you know, like I'm thinking of three racetracks close around to me.

00:24:57.119 --> 00:25:03.920
And they're small tracks and there's their circle tracks, asphalt, but it's all you know, they all kind of work the same.

00:25:04.400 --> 00:25:10.480
And they don't do themselves any favors because there's so many things they could be doing.

00:25:10.640 --> 00:25:20.640
And in in fact, I reached out last year to three these three tracks and said, Hey, I'm willing to do this for you, this, this, and this, you know.

00:25:20.960 --> 00:25:32.880
Do do a podcast, do a thing in the off-season where you interview your drivers, keep your track and name in front of uh your followers even during the off season.

00:25:32.960 --> 00:25:35.119
You know, there's so many things they could do.

00:25:35.440 --> 00:25:41.200
And they all said, Yeah, that's a really good idea, and you know, and but they don't do it.

00:25:41.680 --> 00:25:49.359
And then they wonder why people are going somewhere else on a Friday or Saturday night instead of coming to their track.

00:25:50.319 --> 00:25:50.960
Yep.

00:25:51.200 --> 00:25:56.000
You have a three second, you have three seconds, like keep putting your three seconds out there in front of them.

00:25:56.079 --> 00:25:59.200
Let people see your brand, you know, absolutely.

00:26:00.160 --> 00:26:19.599
So when they when they call us to perform and then no one shows up to their event and they've done nothing to educate the general public about an event happening, that it makes us feel really guilty because we still get paid to put on a show in front of one person or 20,000 people.

00:26:19.759 --> 00:26:24.079
So and but you know, Robin, that's on them.

00:26:24.319 --> 00:26:32.880
And if they can't, if they can't at some point figure that out, I mean every track doesn't have to have a paid social media person.

00:26:33.039 --> 00:26:46.799
No, you know, there's a lot of there's a lot of people out there who are good at social media who would love to just get in free for the whole year to the races at that track and we'll do their social media.

00:26:47.359 --> 00:26:51.359
Absolutely, they don't take advantage of that or they don't reach out to find that.

00:26:51.440 --> 00:27:02.960
And so, you know, like I said, last year I reached out to three different tracks, all three of them need help as far as getting people to come, promoting their events, etc.

00:27:03.440 --> 00:27:08.720
And if they're not willing to do that, then why should I care?

00:27:08.880 --> 00:27:12.799
I mean, I do, I do care, but why should I?

00:27:13.039 --> 00:27:15.119
Right, they have to be the ones to care.

00:27:15.200 --> 00:27:17.200
So I agree, I agree.

00:27:17.359 --> 00:27:22.160
They should be absolutely using their social social media to to the fullest extent.

00:27:22.319 --> 00:27:27.119
And you can even find people in college who want to do internships.

00:27:27.279 --> 00:27:35.200
I saw another track do that recently, and yeah, their page went through the roof, and it was so amazing, but it was a temporary thing, and they didn't want to pay afterwards.

00:27:35.279 --> 00:27:44.160
And I and I I just like really, you really need to invest in your social media, but yeah, they just don't they don't know how, they don't know what to do.

00:27:44.400 --> 00:27:50.960
And honestly, I I teach how to do that on social media every single day.

00:27:51.200 --> 00:27:55.440
So uh if anybody ever wants to learn, you just go find me on social media.

00:27:55.519 --> 00:28:04.400
I go live on TikTok every single day teaching about how to do social media, how to how to be an affiliate, how to get try to get sponsors, things like that.

00:28:04.559 --> 00:28:06.799
I get sponsors for my own self.

00:28:07.119 --> 00:28:10.160
I just don't have the major sponsors for the jet cars yet.

00:28:10.240 --> 00:28:10.640
Yeah.

00:28:11.119 --> 00:28:15.519
But you know, it's a it's a learning curve and it's a step by step by step.

00:28:15.599 --> 00:28:18.319
And so, you know, at some point it'll probably happen.

00:28:18.400 --> 00:28:25.279
And somebody that would support you on your podcast, your TikTok, your whatever, who would also support the jet car.

00:28:25.519 --> 00:28:29.119
So, you know, you've got to just you have to just keep working at it.

00:28:29.279 --> 00:28:35.440
And I think I think, and like you said, we love the men, we couldn't do it stuff without them.

00:28:35.519 --> 00:28:46.400
And I always say, I I love the men, but I'm all about the women because the women have not been supported or promoted as much as they deserve, I think.

00:28:46.480 --> 00:28:48.400
And so that's what I try to do.

00:28:48.880 --> 00:28:59.359
But I think a lot of the men that run these tracks don't they don't understand the social media part, and especially if they're older.

00:28:59.519 --> 00:29:11.920
I'm you know, I can say that I'm 70 years old, so I think a lot of the track owners, some of them tend to be older, and it's just one more thing that they have to get to.

00:29:12.079 --> 00:29:19.279
And so, you know, I'd encourage them to follow you, and and you can learn by watching what somebody else is doing.

00:29:19.599 --> 00:29:21.920
Absolutely, absolutely, yeah.

00:29:22.000 --> 00:29:29.119
That's how I've learned that I I mean, yeah, I went to school for it back in the early 2000s, no late 90s.

00:29:29.279 --> 00:29:31.839
I went to school for that, and everything's changed.

00:29:31.920 --> 00:29:34.079
It was analog back then, now everything's digital.

00:29:34.160 --> 00:29:36.400
I absolutely love editing content.

00:29:36.559 --> 00:29:37.920
Do I have a lot of time for that?

00:29:38.240 --> 00:29:47.200
No, but I love editing so and putting a different spin on things and watching our social media grow like a weed lately.

00:29:47.279 --> 00:29:48.559
So it's been really nice.

00:29:49.200 --> 00:29:50.960
It is nice, yeah.

00:29:51.200 --> 00:29:54.319
So, where would somebody go if they wanted to follow you?

00:29:54.400 --> 00:29:56.400
How do how would they follow you?

00:29:56.960 --> 00:30:01.680
On on Facebook is our biggest avenue, and it's because of our age.

00:30:01.920 --> 00:30:04.480
We are Facebookers through and through.

00:30:04.640 --> 00:30:05.519
Yeah, me too.

00:30:05.599 --> 00:30:11.759
Um, we've we do put stuff out on Instagram, but we are because no one knows how to say our last name, it's Dawit.

00:30:12.000 --> 00:30:22.559
Um, it's Dothit Motorsports, but we go by Jet Cars Rock, and it's JetcarsRock.com at Jet Cars Rock on Facebook, on Instagram, on YouTube.

00:30:23.119 --> 00:30:24.799
YouTube is slacking.

00:30:25.039 --> 00:30:38.799
We have some major growing pains with the YouTube stuff, but there's some old videos on there of David when he was young and had the squeaky voice and still learning how to do the jet car stuff and being interviewed by Don Perdome.

00:30:39.119 --> 00:30:41.839
So um when he was little.

00:30:41.920 --> 00:30:45.920
So there's a lot of cool things on there, but we're gonna be working on that YouTube page this year.

00:30:46.079 --> 00:31:01.359
Yeah, then on TikTok, I found social media on TikTok last year, started my page, have been growing it, which is amazing because I'm introducing people that have no idea what drag racing is in general to what we do.

00:31:01.519 --> 00:31:06.400
And I the same thing as what you were saying is you got to come to the event to feel it.

00:31:06.640 --> 00:31:14.400
If you've never ever seen a jet car in person, you can't really say anything about the experience because there's nothing like it.

00:31:14.480 --> 00:31:21.839
And there's a lot of a lot of people can say that about the sport, especially the top fuel cars and the professional guys out there.

00:31:21.920 --> 00:31:27.680
Well, we're considered professional exhibitions, so we do get to go to those uh major events.

00:31:27.839 --> 00:31:44.000
NHRA does not pay us to be there, so so yeah, NHRA classifies us as exhibitions, so we're not allowed to race for money, but they also won't pay the jet cars to be there, so that's difficult because that can cost you know four or five thousand dollars a weekend.

00:31:44.160 --> 00:31:52.799
So if we ever have a sponsor on board that wants to go to an event, we just have to contact NHRA and and uh see if they won't host us.

00:31:52.960 --> 00:31:58.480
But yeah, they get a lot of they they they want us there, they just can't, they just won't pay for it.

00:31:58.720 --> 00:32:07.440
Yeah, and I would think that when you get to the NHRA level, there's surely somebody out there, Robin, that will pay for it.

00:32:07.519 --> 00:32:09.440
You just haven't found them yet, right?

00:32:10.079 --> 00:32:10.720
We're working on it.

00:32:10.799 --> 00:32:18.000
We found a couple this past year, but things happen a little bit too late in our season, so we weren't able to go.

00:32:18.240 --> 00:32:21.039
You really have to work ahead of time with NHRA, anyways.

00:32:21.279 --> 00:32:22.640
So we're working on it.

00:32:22.799 --> 00:32:33.279
We have had some really great sponsorships on board over the years, and I we're working on a really big one right now, and I don't know if it's gonna come to fruition or not.

00:32:33.440 --> 00:32:35.759
It just, you know how it goes with sponsorships.

00:32:35.839 --> 00:32:45.359
They have to build trust, they want to watch your social media, make sure things are cohesive, and we try to keep things professional, no politics, things like that.

00:32:45.519 --> 00:32:49.200
Yeah, but it's it's coming, it's coming.

00:32:49.279 --> 00:32:52.640
And my husband's got these major dreams, and people are like, What's your dream?

00:32:52.720 --> 00:33:00.640
And I said, I really always wanted just to travel, so I get to travel all over, yeah, all over the country, and I don't have to work a big kid job anymore.

00:33:00.799 --> 00:33:04.480
So that's you know, it's a win-win situation.

00:33:04.640 --> 00:33:10.880
And then once once a sponsor, a major sponsor comes on board, it will just be bigger and badder.

00:33:10.960 --> 00:33:14.799
His goal is to is to have eight jet cars and a jet truck.

00:33:14.880 --> 00:33:22.240
I mean, that's what he wants, and he wants to put on a series and he wants to bring the series to small tracks that maybe can't afford jet cars.

00:33:22.640 --> 00:33:32.559
Yeah, you know it's he's he's got he's got huge huge dreams, and I'm along for the ride.

00:33:32.640 --> 00:33:57.200
And uh, if I can help, oh, I told him I said social media, because he feels the same way about social media as some of the other people do, they don't understand the value of it, but watching our page grow over the last couple of years, we've had it for 13, 17 years, we've had it that since 2009, and over the last couple of years, it's just it's X it's doubled in followers and more and more people are coming on board and seeing what we're doing.

00:33:57.359 --> 00:34:00.960
And yeah, so it's hard, it's hard.

00:34:01.279 --> 00:34:04.400
It's hard, but it's it's fun, but it's fun, it's good.

00:34:04.480 --> 00:34:14.320
There's a lot of lot of benefits to what you're doing, and so I I would love, you know, I'm I'm the sports person in my house.

00:34:14.559 --> 00:34:16.400
My husband has a motorcycle.

00:34:16.559 --> 00:34:20.239
He we used to go to the motorcycle races all the time in Ohio.

00:34:20.960 --> 00:34:31.519
He likes sports, he's gotten into football on TV a little bit more this year than in the past, but I'm really the sports fan in the house.

00:34:31.760 --> 00:34:41.039
I would be the one who would want to be have all the big ideas and the traveling, and he would be driving us, driving me around.

00:34:41.360 --> 00:34:45.679
But it just, you know, as we've gotten older, it just hasn't worked out that way.

00:34:46.000 --> 00:34:53.679
So I do the best I can, go as much as I can, and just isn't it, isn't it?

00:34:53.840 --> 00:34:58.880
I think the best part is all the people I've met and the friends I've made.

00:34:59.199 --> 00:35:01.679
Absolutely, and and the look of the fans.

00:35:01.760 --> 00:35:12.159
I mean, our cars are in hundreds of in hundred thousands and thousands of people's camera rolls because they are they bring their kids to the event.

00:35:12.320 --> 00:35:20.960
And my mother-in-law was one of the first ones uh woman that I ever saw with the fans at my very first event.

00:35:21.119 --> 00:35:27.519
And she got involved and they stand out, we stand out with our cars all day long, every single day at every event.

00:35:27.679 --> 00:35:28.000
Yeah.

00:35:28.239 --> 00:35:35.679
So even if one person walks in at noon, we're out there and we try to, we will answer any questions people have.

00:35:35.760 --> 00:35:38.320
And if they look timid, then they're afraid to ask questions.

00:35:38.480 --> 00:35:42.320
We reach out and and say, Hey, you know, come see the cars, come get up close.

00:35:42.480 --> 00:35:59.760
And when they take a picture, we we bring the kids up and we let them put their hands on the cars and and we get them to put their thumbs up and we get a picture of them, and we have different flags and different little things that they can have, and we get the driver's signatures and we offer free signatures and all the types of things.

00:35:59.840 --> 00:36:02.480
You can walk right up to the cars, we don't have them roped off.

00:36:02.719 --> 00:36:06.079
It's it's getting to know the fans has been really amazing.

00:36:06.159 --> 00:36:13.840
And I really love when I get to do my own social media, I I get behind the scenes with the fans and behind the scenes with the cars.

00:36:14.000 --> 00:36:20.079
I do miss a lot of other stuff because I'm on the track, so that is uh my biggest right now.

00:36:20.159 --> 00:36:25.440
That's our biggest issue is trying to get content from the cars actually putting on their show.

00:36:25.679 --> 00:36:26.000
Yeah.

00:36:26.239 --> 00:36:27.440
Because I'm not there to do it.

00:36:27.519 --> 00:36:29.679
I'm at the end of the track and I don't get to see it.

00:36:29.760 --> 00:36:32.960
So that's our biggest downfall right now.

00:36:33.280 --> 00:36:37.440
It'll you'll find somebody that'll help you or whatever, it'll it'll happen.

00:36:37.760 --> 00:36:39.119
We need someone consistent.

00:36:39.280 --> 00:36:40.800
We are looking right now.

00:36:40.880 --> 00:36:54.159
It's just for you know, if someone wants to grow their social media and use us as their platform, I've watched other photographers do that and have just kind of pushed themselves to the limit.

00:36:54.639 --> 00:36:55.760
And I love that.

00:36:55.840 --> 00:37:11.280
So if anybody's wanting to do that and wants to come to an event, we can work something out, but yeah, um, it's four pennies, you know, at this point, because it would be nice to have someone sponsored to do that social media, not social media, someone to take footage.

00:37:11.440 --> 00:37:13.039
I just need raw footage.

00:37:13.280 --> 00:37:13.599
Yeah.

00:37:13.760 --> 00:37:16.480
So and you know, it putting it out there.

00:37:16.639 --> 00:37:31.599
There's it might not be at every track or every event, but if you could at least have a handful of people who'd be willing to do that, you know, just like I mean, that's something that if you came to an a track close to me, I'd do that in a heartbeat.

00:37:31.679 --> 00:37:33.039
Because to me, that's fun.

00:37:33.119 --> 00:37:39.119
Yeah, you know, and we have a creators at the track campaign that we put together last year.

00:37:39.360 --> 00:37:43.679
Actually, it came out before NHRAs did, but we're just this little.

00:37:44.079 --> 00:37:51.280
And basically, basically, we invite creators who want to boost their own social media to come to an event.

00:37:51.519 --> 00:37:58.880
We take care of their tickets, and we also get approval from the track, and we teach them where they can stand.

00:37:58.960 --> 00:38:10.800
And if they've never been to an event before, they're not allowed to be on the track until after the first run is done because watching a jet car for the first time and then being on the track next to it is like two different things.

00:38:11.039 --> 00:38:14.000
Yes, absolutely, and there's a safety concern there.

00:38:14.159 --> 00:38:19.440
So we uh we do we run creators at the track, and we also do that with the RV industry.

00:38:19.679 --> 00:38:32.960
So when uh our fellow RVers that have never been to an event before, but they have their big family and they travel and they're gonna be in the same area as us all at different times, whichever event we're at, we invite them to come to the track.

00:38:33.199 --> 00:38:38.480
And all I want from them is raw footage of the cars going down the track from their point of view.

00:38:38.719 --> 00:38:40.800
And they've stepped up last year.

00:38:40.880 --> 00:38:46.320
We had about six or seven different creators step up and do that who had never been to an event before.

00:38:46.480 --> 00:38:48.480
So I really like that concept.

00:38:48.639 --> 00:38:53.599
But if anybody else is interested, you can come camp with us, or you can just come for the day.

00:38:53.679 --> 00:38:58.880
And yeah, I just need a little, I just need that two minutes of raw footage of those cars going down the track.

00:38:59.199 --> 00:39:01.920
Other than that, they can go and have fun and do whatever.

00:39:02.079 --> 00:39:10.719
So well, and the other piece of that is if they haven't ever been there before, it would be great to do some little interviews.

00:39:10.960 --> 00:39:12.559
What did you think of the event?

00:39:12.719 --> 00:39:14.079
You know, what did you like the most?

00:39:14.159 --> 00:39:24.079
And have little short, that'd be great for your YouTube page, and and gives you more content, and that's something that you can do after they've seen the cars run.

00:39:24.159 --> 00:39:31.280
And so, yeah, that I can see there'd be a lot, a lot of good content that could come out of those interactions.

00:39:31.519 --> 00:39:32.000
So great.

00:39:32.239 --> 00:39:33.760
We have a lot of great ideas.

00:39:34.000 --> 00:39:37.840
We have a couple, we have a lot of great ideas to have things set up.

00:39:37.920 --> 00:39:49.760
So maybe like a photo or like a video booth where people can walk up to it and tell us what they think, just in case, because not always am I able to like, hey, go, go, go tell us about what you thought, you know what I mean?

00:39:49.920 --> 00:39:59.119
We're out there talking to somebody, and you know what it's like when you go out there and you might end up talking to somebody for 15 minutes, and you lost 15 other people wanted to talk to you, so right, right.

00:39:59.360 --> 00:40:02.079
This way we could do that, and we also have like a little coloring table.

00:40:02.159 --> 00:40:12.239
One of our spread our friends is sponsoring that this year with jet cars, and he'll have a jet car on the on a coloring page, and they can take it with them, and that's all gonna be free.

00:40:12.400 --> 00:40:14.239
So yeah, we're excited.

00:40:14.320 --> 00:40:39.679
I we're excited to put on a show this year, and every year you just add a little something, and and you grow your business and you grow your you know, your exposure to other people, and yeah, it's I I envy you in in the fact that you get to travel and do all those things, and I know it's not a perfect life, there is no perfect life, but to me that would be a lot of fun to be able to go to all those tracks.

00:40:39.760 --> 00:40:45.760
That would that was kind of my dream at one point when I was younger that we would have the RV.

00:40:45.840 --> 00:41:05.840
And my husband could stay in the air-conditioned RV and do whatever he wanted to do, and I could go do my thing on the track, but it just it just didn't work out the way we thought illness, different things, but but I I just love I just love motorsports and the people you meet in it, and I know you do too, Rob, and I can tell.

00:41:06.079 --> 00:41:06.559
Absolutely.

00:41:06.719 --> 00:41:10.480
I mean, my first track experience was Bandomere Raceway.

00:41:10.559 --> 00:41:11.280
Oh my god.

00:41:13.599 --> 00:41:14.639
I know Tammy.

00:41:14.800 --> 00:41:15.280
Yeah.

00:41:15.599 --> 00:41:16.079
Tammy.

00:41:16.559 --> 00:41:27.920
That was yeah, they the Bandomere family puts on an excellent jet car event, a couple of them they did every year, and we got to go and we got to do several of those before they closed down.

00:41:28.000 --> 00:41:32.400
And what an honor to to see it and see all those people.

00:41:32.559 --> 00:41:37.440
I mean, that that is probably the most people we've ever performed in front of.

00:41:37.599 --> 00:41:40.639
I believe there was at one time 20,000 people in the grandstands.

00:41:40.719 --> 00:41:41.440
Well, I'll never mind.

00:41:41.519 --> 00:41:47.199
I I did I do say that we we did a couple of national events as well, so yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:41:47.440 --> 00:41:53.039
Yeah, I did uh I had Tammy on my podcast, and then she had me on on her show.

00:41:53.119 --> 00:41:55.199
So yeah, I really, I really like her.

00:41:55.280 --> 00:41:57.920
That that's fun to know that you did a show there.

00:41:58.239 --> 00:42:10.719
So Robin, is there anything we haven't talked about that we need to share with my listeners about Jet Cars Rock or anything at all?

00:42:11.599 --> 00:42:26.400
One of the things is if you see our social medias and you see anything on social media about us, just engage in the content and uh and lift each other up in your in your comments for both Facebook and all socials, really.

00:42:26.559 --> 00:42:29.440
You know, let's let's try to keep things positive.

00:42:29.679 --> 00:42:45.119
We do know that we get a lot of flack because of jet cars, but a lot of a lot has changed for safety and for the jet cars in general over the years, just like all race cars have evolved when it comes to safety.

00:42:45.760 --> 00:42:46.800
We are safe.

00:42:46.880 --> 00:42:48.480
We uh we love what we do.

00:42:48.719 --> 00:42:53.440
And yes, we blow a little stuff around the track, but we basically clean up the track.

00:42:53.679 --> 00:42:59.039
We don't drip, we you know, there's a lot of old faux pas about jet car racing.

00:42:59.119 --> 00:43:04.400
And honestly, most of us, actually, all of us, we talk amongst each other.

00:43:04.559 --> 00:43:16.000
There's only about 28 people who have jet car licenses in the United States, and we my husband's friends with almost every single last one of them, and they've known each other for years and they help each other out.

00:43:16.239 --> 00:43:18.480
But we we do we hold each other accountable.

00:43:18.559 --> 00:43:20.800
We don't, we do not leave a mess on the track.

00:43:20.960 --> 00:43:26.800
We try our best to, well, if the track asks us to burn something down, we're gonna burn it down.

00:43:26.960 --> 00:43:27.840
You know what I mean?

00:43:28.079 --> 00:43:34.719
But we we do our best to make sure that we are being conscientious to other racers.

00:43:34.960 --> 00:43:41.760
And hopefully when you see a jet car at your event, instead of turning your nose at us, come up and talk to us.

00:43:41.920 --> 00:43:43.760
We love learning what you do.

00:43:43.920 --> 00:43:45.599
We want to know what you do.

00:43:45.920 --> 00:43:50.159
We love supporting people when they come up and say, Oh, I I I'm in the semifinals.

00:43:50.400 --> 00:43:53.280
I'm like, we'll be down at the fence watching you during your event.

00:43:53.440 --> 00:43:59.360
We we try to support other racers, and we don't we know that we're not there just for ourselves, you know.

00:44:00.159 --> 00:44:01.760
Racers bring on other people too.

00:44:01.920 --> 00:44:03.840
So yeah, we're just happy to be there.

00:44:03.920 --> 00:44:05.760
We're just we're happy to put on a show.

00:44:05.920 --> 00:44:11.039
We try to put on the biggest and best fire show that we we can for every single event.

00:44:11.199 --> 00:44:12.800
And then we go down the track.

00:44:12.880 --> 00:44:20.400
And to us, it's not about speed, it's about putting on an amazing show and keeping the fans happy over going 300 miles an hour.

00:44:20.480 --> 00:44:22.880
However, David has been 300 miles an hour.

00:44:22.960 --> 00:44:23.760
He's been 304.

00:44:24.079 --> 00:44:26.079
His dad's been 322 miles an hour.

00:44:26.239 --> 00:44:27.599
They these guys have done it.

00:44:27.840 --> 00:44:30.480
Dialing it back to the funny cars has been his dream.

00:44:30.639 --> 00:44:32.400
So that's why we have funny cars right now.

00:44:32.639 --> 00:44:33.280
Yeah.

00:44:33.760 --> 00:44:35.119
So cool, Robin.

00:44:35.280 --> 00:44:37.519
So you start in in May.

00:44:37.760 --> 00:44:39.760
I know you're gonna have a great summer.

00:44:39.920 --> 00:44:41.679
It's basically through the summer.

00:44:41.920 --> 00:44:50.480
I hope you stay in touch and and tag Women's Motorsports Network when you post things because that way I'll see them faster and I can engage better.

00:44:50.800 --> 00:44:51.360
We do that.

00:44:51.440 --> 00:44:52.719
I'd absolutely do that.

00:44:53.039 --> 00:44:59.599
I get so many things to my social media that it would crowd you out if you don't tag me.

00:44:59.679 --> 00:45:11.760
So if you if you tag me, I'd love to share what you're doing and and gosh, I I hope you'll come back to US 131 Motorsports Park because that's only 30 minutes away.

00:45:12.159 --> 00:45:15.760
You know, it's it's uh it's not up to us sometimes.

00:45:15.840 --> 00:45:19.920
Some of the tracks have their favorites and and we understand that.

00:45:20.079 --> 00:45:28.239
So right now they I think they only do one show a year, and the Larsons jets are usually there for the US 31 show.

00:45:28.400 --> 00:45:35.360
We've been there, I think we were there a couple of years ago, and yeah, and so it it all the tracks change.

00:45:35.440 --> 00:45:42.480
Some of the tracks stay the same every year, but uh but you know, life is evolving, people come and go in this industry.

00:45:42.639 --> 00:45:43.840
So we're excited.

00:45:44.079 --> 00:45:53.360
Things will change and and hopefully we'll be booked into more events and be able to put on a show for more people for sure, especially with social media growing.

00:45:53.440 --> 00:45:58.639
I mean, absolutely it's a win-win situation for the tracks and for us, so it is.

00:45:58.880 --> 00:46:01.679
Well, Robin, I've really enjoyed talking to you today.

00:46:01.760 --> 00:46:04.480
This has been a pleasure to have you on the show.

00:46:04.639 --> 00:46:09.360
Is there any last words or anything that you want to share before we go?

00:46:11.039 --> 00:46:12.159
I I don't.

00:46:12.239 --> 00:46:26.400
I just I feel that if anybody else wants to learn how to do social media or how to do how to put your best foot forward in the limelight, I'm always trying to redirect myself and make sure that I'm doing all the things right.

00:46:26.639 --> 00:46:28.480
But it's a learning curve for all of us.

00:46:28.639 --> 00:46:32.800
So if you see me out there, uh just come up and say hi to us.

00:46:32.880 --> 00:46:34.639
Don't be afraid to come up and say hi.

00:46:34.800 --> 00:46:40.880
We we love meeting new fans and seeing our old fans and people keeping up with us.

00:46:41.039 --> 00:46:46.000
So uh I just really appreciate you having me and have thanks for the time to do this today.

00:46:46.079 --> 00:46:50.960
And I do, I plan on keeping in touch, and I appreciate all you do for women in motorsports.

00:46:51.440 --> 00:46:56.000
I just never really thought that I had a place to stand because I didn't drive.

00:46:56.079 --> 00:47:02.239
And but now I've I've been in this industry for 17 years, and and darn it, I think that there is a place for me.

00:47:02.480 --> 00:47:06.400
And so here we are, and we'll see what's happening.

00:47:06.719 --> 00:47:09.760
It it takes it takes a village.

00:47:10.079 --> 00:47:12.719
It's it can't just be about the drivers.

00:47:12.800 --> 00:47:22.719
And I love talking to people who are not drivers to get a perspective on what else it takes to keep the motorsports world going.

00:47:22.800 --> 00:47:29.039
And there's so many women in so many roles that we don't even think about.

00:47:29.280 --> 00:47:38.719
And then once we connect and we tell your story, you know, there's maybe other women that are like, oh, you know, that's interesting.

00:47:38.880 --> 00:47:43.440
I could do the social media and the promotion for such and such.

00:47:43.599 --> 00:47:50.639
And so it gives people encouragement and ideas of what they can do because everybody can't be the driver.

00:47:51.679 --> 00:47:54.400
It just I I could never be the driver.

00:47:54.639 --> 00:48:07.519
I drove my son's sports, I drove my son's uh street stock once on a track where there was no other cars because that's just not my thing.

00:48:07.679 --> 00:48:14.559
Now, I think had I gotten involved in motorsports when I was younger, much younger, I think I could have done it.

00:48:14.719 --> 00:48:20.079
I think I could have driven, you know, maybe a four-cylinder or something.

00:48:20.239 --> 00:48:21.119
But I agree.

00:48:21.280 --> 00:48:25.840
My daughter is 14 years old, she travels with us, she's homeschooled in a way.

00:48:26.000 --> 00:48:30.239
She's homeschooled through Colorado, so it's like a really cool program.

00:48:30.400 --> 00:48:34.719
Well, she'll have her associate's degree when she graduates uh high school.

00:48:34.960 --> 00:48:40.639
And she's telling she tells people that her daddy drives her jet cars, so she wants to drive.

00:48:40.880 --> 00:48:47.440
And I was I've always been that square when it comes to safety, and so that's that's a little that's gonna be a different thing.

00:48:47.519 --> 00:48:56.000
She's 14, so we got it four more years, but she's really pushing herself out there and getting to know the fans a little bit and and becoming less timid around people.

00:48:56.239 --> 00:48:59.280
And I'm very happy for her, but uh the same as you.

00:48:59.440 --> 00:49:00.639
I wasn't raised with it.

00:49:00.800 --> 00:49:04.320
I I did try to drive our wheel stander.

00:49:04.400 --> 00:49:06.800
Uh I was gonna get licensed in our wheel stander.

00:49:07.119 --> 00:49:15.840
David crashed that wheel stander two years ago in Wisconsin and had to take a flight to the burn center in Milwaukee.

00:49:16.320 --> 00:49:31.440
And so that is no longer, but I did get in that thing and I did do some test runs and the noise that diminishes when you put on the head sock and then you put on the helmet, and then you get in the car and you're with yourself.

00:49:31.679 --> 00:49:32.719
I couldn't handle it.

00:49:32.880 --> 00:49:33.840
I couldn't handle it.

00:49:34.079 --> 00:49:34.639
I can't.

00:49:34.880 --> 00:49:44.480
And so now I I have a little idea of what what people and I'm sure people can get used to it and maybe they embrace the silence, but in that given time I could not.

00:49:44.719 --> 00:49:48.400
And I'm like, I don't get me out of this thing, I'm not doing it.

00:49:48.480 --> 00:49:56.880
And you know, popping a wheelie and going down the track with a wheelie at 80 miles an hour, 90 miles an hour was just a little too intimidating for me.

00:49:57.039 --> 00:50:01.199
So for people who do that, I I'm I clap for you.

00:50:01.519 --> 00:50:03.679
I don't know for people that drive jet cars.

00:50:03.760 --> 00:50:04.400
I clap for you.

00:50:04.480 --> 00:50:06.559
I mean, it's absolutely insane.

00:50:07.119 --> 00:50:09.199
And I'm here for the ride.

00:50:09.440 --> 00:50:10.480
Yeah, me too.

00:50:10.639 --> 00:50:16.079
I'm here, I'm here to support those people, what they do, and to promote and encourage them.

00:50:16.159 --> 00:50:17.280
So I appreciate you.

00:50:17.360 --> 00:50:18.079
I really do.

00:50:18.239 --> 00:50:24.559
I'm looking forward to seeing how how this all pans out in the next couple of years with everything that's happening in our lives.

00:50:24.639 --> 00:50:25.840
So I do too.

00:50:26.000 --> 00:50:28.239
Well, Robin, thanks again for being on.

00:50:28.320 --> 00:50:29.280
And thank you.

00:50:29.519 --> 00:50:32.000
Yeah, we're gonna stay in touch for sure.

00:50:32.239 --> 00:50:33.280
Absolutely, absolutely.

00:50:33.360 --> 00:50:34.400
I'm I'm here, man.

00:50:34.480 --> 00:50:42.079
And I think you and I have the same values and the same same goals and the same and same views, and we're on the same frequency now.

00:50:42.159 --> 00:50:44.639
So I think sky's the limit.

00:50:45.119 --> 00:50:45.519
Absolutely.

00:50:45.679 --> 00:50:46.159
Hold on.

00:50:46.320 --> 00:50:49.599
If there's anything that I can do for you, you please please do reach out.

00:50:49.840 --> 00:50:55.440
I will I wholeheartedly believe that uh there should be more representation here.

00:50:55.920 --> 00:50:57.199
Thank you for that.

00:50:57.599 --> 00:50:59.039
Hold on just a second.

00:50:59.440 --> 00:50:59.760
Okay.

00:51:03.039 --> 00:51:07.519
