Christi Schimpke with Crash Jewelry
Christi Schimpke, founder & designer of Crash Jewelry lives in Culver City, CA. She has an art history background, with prior careers at UCLA and The Getty Museum. However she was never that happy in her career. She met her husband Dan and they were married 8 years ago. Dan is the owner of a body shop that works on high end foreign and American cars. He works long hours but is always excited to get up every day to go to work. He suggested Christi take some time off to see where her passion might take her.
She took some metalsmith classes and got pretty good at it, She began making traditional types of jewelry. Dan offered her some space in a garage next to the body shop. She was taking a break one day and the beautiful cars and colors caught her eye. She asked Dan what happened to the damaged pieces of the cars and he said they were recycled. She got the idea to try and make jewelry out of some of those metals.
Christi is in her 8th year of making Crash Jewelry. She had to develop her own production techniques and every piece is hand crafted and a little or maybe even a lot different than the others. Her goal is to maintain the original factory paint and integrity of the metal.
